FR 955 Series: Training effect calculation is wrong AFTER 12.23 software (may include 12.27 and 13.15 sw)

At the request of duplicate the topic here - from the beta 12.2 forum!
Instead of fixing the problem, Garmin is engaging in bureaucracy!

Because some of you have reported seeing this on the latest(non-beta) production software, let's please have you start a thread in the main forum for this device:

Training effect calculation is wrong! After the update, this indicator began to be considered incorrect relative to the past similar workouts.

Today, August 22, there was a training session. The workout was in zone 1 with an average heart rate of 135 bpm. Training Effect wrote that he trained his lactate threshold well. O_O IS IT? IT'S A JOKE? The run was strictly in zone 1. My lactate threshold in the app is 176! Until update 12.2 and complete data reset from the watch, Incl. there was no such training!

today's training - 24.08.22. what the ***?!?! WTF?! What is another intense workout? what the *** is a vo2max increase?!? It's a Base workout! This was before the update to 12.2. Garmin please take note and fix this ASAP!

  • 186bpm

I agree with you, but then surely I shouldn't get a TE which is higher than the estimate while being considerably below the target HR most of the time? I actually maintained the target HR throughout the run, the TE would have been even higher.

  • Its the running HR that matters for TE regardless of type of zones.

If you want to achieve high AE score, just run longer at 75-80% of max HR.

It has been consistent for my case.

ie AE = 3.5 for 1.5 hours run at 75% MHR versus AE =4.0 for 2 hours run at 75% MHR

  • Thanks. So bingo.

Your target HR of 140 is 75% of MHR.

I still think your TE is correct and within the estimation base on your run duration compared to the data I just posted above.

  • I'm not sure what you are trying to say. I'm not really arguing that the TE of the run is wrong. My main concern is the inconsistency between the estimation from the daily suggested workout und the actual TE. Do you agree that my TE shouldn't be higher than the estimation when I stay below the target HR at all times (as in my second run)?

  • I get what you mean.

There might be disconnect in the estimate and actual TE calculation by Gamin. I think its not the first time we are hearing about disconnections between data from watch and GC.

Nevertheless, your actual TE looks fine to me.

  • I'm not so sure about the actual TE. Garmins own guide (www.garmin.com/.../) gives a range of 2.0-3.0 for long, slow distance. Granted, this depends on what they mean by low, but I would not expect a 40min base run to be on the upper end of this range.

But yes, my main concern is the inconsistency. Although I'm not sure why you mention Garmin Connect, both the daily suggested workout with its estimation and the actual TE are calculated solely on the watch.

  • Anyone noticing the training effect incorrect AGAIN after recent spate of upgrades??   Did fairly intense workout with 15 mins in zone 4 & 5 and 20 mins in zone 3, 16 mins in zone 2 yet it was BASE/low aerobic???

this was despite training effect also saying it was 3.3 aerobic, which is fine but 2.3 anaerobic?

Base/ low aerobic workouts shouldn’t have any length of time in zone 4&5 or be anaerobic yet here we are again. It was fixed for a while but now it’s happening again

  • My zones are based on max heart rate and have been for some time. That’s not changed nor has my actual max HR.

  • Hi Kevin

    1.Yes

    2.Yes

    3.uk

I keep getting the same issue on my 6x and I don't know what numbers to trust anymore. My V02 max is all off and I'm getting so much spurious data.

I'm on 24.10 and it's still a mess. Please help!

    Thanks
