FR 955 Series: Training effect calculation is wrong AFTER 12.23 software (may include 12.27 and 13.15 sw)

At the request of duplicate the topic here - from the beta 12.2 forum!
Instead of fixing the problem, Garmin is engaging in bureaucracy!

Because some of you have reported seeing this on the latest(non-beta) production software, let's please have you start a thread in the main forum for this device:

Training effect calculation is wrong! After the update, this indicator began to be considered incorrect relative to the past similar workouts.

Today, August 22, there was a training session. The workout was in zone 1 with an average heart rate of 135 bpm. Training Effect wrote that he trained his lactate threshold well. O_O IS IT? IT'S A JOKE? The run was strictly in zone 1. My lactate threshold in the app is 176! Until update 12.2 and complete data reset from the watch, Incl. there was no such training!

today's training - 24.08.22. what the ***?!?! WTF?! What is another intense workout? what the *** is a vo2max increase?!? It's a Base workout! This was before the update to 12.2. Garmin please take note and fix this ASAP!

  • I mean, that doesn't make sense to me considering your TE is based on a number of factors, including training readiness and training load.

  • Same issue here since 12.23 update, easy runs are considered vo2max

  • First run on 12.25b, 16.5 miles with 3000+ ft of elevation gain, seems to have a correctly calculated TE based on the HR data and other metrics. TE is what I'd expect from this type of activity. Still think more running activities will need to be recorded before knowing the problem has been corrected absolutely.

  • Got 23.01 beta on my Fenix 6 a couple of days ago. Today I ran ~21km easy (144 AHR), got a TE of 4.2 base, so looks like it's fixed. With some trepidation, I am now installing 23.02...

(I know this is the FR955 forum, but this is the most active thread on an issue that affects multiple devices)

  • Allrighty, just did a long run (70 minutes in Z2) and primary benefit is Base, so it seems to be fixed (n=1)

Previous similar long run (90 minutes Z2) was shown as VO2Max :P Other one, 35 minute recovery in Z2 was reported as Tempo.

    Latest:

    Primary Benefit: Base
    Aerobic: 4.0 Higly Impacting
    Anaerobic: 0.0 No Benefit
    Exercise Load: 191

    Previous similar ones:

    Primary Benefit: VO2Max
    Aerobic: 4.7 Highly Impacting
    Anaerobic: 0.1 No Benefit
    Exercise Load: 254

    Primary Benefit: Tempo
    Aerobic: 3.9 Impacting
    Anaerobic: 0.0 No Benefit
    Exercise Load: 170

Oh, and also had a VO2Max one yesterday, but that contained 2 blocks of 2 miles at 10k pace so that also seems fine...

  • only one run with 12.25 so far, but 12k 93% z1/z2 run was correctly identified as base. Aerobic 3.0

  • Sounds promising, Thanks for sharing

  • Second run, easy 12 miles with 2500 ft of elevation, on 12.25b and was correctly calculated as Base. Yesterdays was a long run with moderate effort in the middle calculated as Threshold (I think I forgot to say what the TE was).

  • Just had a half marathon on Saturday which was rightfully VO2 Max. I did my 10k recovery run and Z1/Z2 lactate threshold zone. 3.0 TE / Base. I think I'm good now on the training status front.
