FR 955 Series: Training effect calculation is wrong AFTER 12.23 software (may include 12.27 and 13.15 sw)

At the request of duplicate the topic here - from the beta 12.2 forum!
Instead of fixing the problem, Garmin is engaging in bureaucracy!

Because some of you have reported seeing this on the latest(non-beta) production software, let's please have you start a thread in the main forum for this device:

Training effect calculation is wrong! After the update, this indicator began to be considered incorrect relative to the past similar workouts.

Today, August 22, there was a training session. The workout was in zone 1 with an average heart rate of 135 bpm. Training Effect wrote that he trained his lactate threshold well. O_O IS IT? IT'S A JOKE? The run was strictly in zone 1. My lactate threshold in the app is 176! Until update 12.2 and complete data reset from the watch, Incl. there was no such training!

today's training - 24.08.22. what the ***?!?! WTF?! What is another intense workout? what the *** is a vo2max increase?!? It's a Base workout! This was before the update to 12.2. Garmin please take note and fix this ASAP!

  • Hello .  Because you have a fenix 7 and not a Forerunner 955, you will need to post in the appropriate channel.  Please see below:

  • 1. Yes

    2. Yes

    3. USA

This has ruined my training block. Was using the suggested workouts with upcoming races in the calendars, but, because all base runs are treated as high aerobic (labeled as VO2max), the suggestions just ask for more and longer base runs to try to rebalance. All my real threshold and tempo sessions have disappeared.

    My watch is effectively bricked.

Need a software downgrade to 11.12, or a fix IMMEDIATELY!

  • I wonder how many Yes, Yes, Yes Garmin must collect before a fix is pushed.

Just a reminder a fruit competitor is upping their fitness watch offering. Please act fast Garmin.

  • That's easy, until people get tired of it ! Typical Garmin strategy, play for dumb and wear out the complainers, what are we gonna do anyway ? At least in this case we KNOW there is a fix, probably some silly code line that got changed by accident and no one double checked.

In other cases it's more worrying, like for some F7 and Epix 2 watches that had atrocious audio for weeks (months ?) when others were fine earlier this year and Kevin kept asking for feedback when the problem was dead obvious to anyone not deaf. Well they finally fixed it...more or less, audio became listenable on the affected watches but still pretty poor as they probably used different components for the affected watches. As a matter of principle I sent my Epix back !

  • I have the same idea about just returning the watch. I have till the 28th to return, so I'm going to give them another week or so. I might have to start shopping around at other watches that do the same hardware things, but have less of the software stuff that can get broken.

  • I wouldn't hold my breath, this will probably take weeks to fix...Garmin have a track record of breaking things because of a silly oversight and then being super cautious about releasing a fix, annoying everyone in the process.

I mean what possessed them to release different code than what had proven to work fine in the beta!

  • That's why I usually make these purchases through REI. If you're a member, you have a full year to return anything, in any condition, no questions asked. It's a serious consideration for me at this point. I'd rather have a watch with less features that works than one with a ton of features that don't.

I'm a coach and following my own training plan, which is the only reason I'm able to continue using the watch regardless of this problem. If I was reliant on the training plan the watch provides, there's no way I'd still be using it.
