The clock freezes every time I press CONFIGURE MAPS

Updated to 12.23 but still, EVERY time I go to MAP and then to CONFIGURE MAP the device freezes and the only solution is to hold down the LIGHT switch off key for about 15 seconds and then restart the clock.

Anyone else with the same problem?

    I would say that Garmin still has messed up something regarding the custom maps at 955 and sometimes it occurs, sometimes not. It does not work 100% even with the maps I linked.

    I downloaded both Slovak maps and both work for me. It's a shame that Freemaps don't work. They are fantastically made for the Slovak location. :-( Anyway, I'm grateful for the ones you shared here.

    No problem. I am glad it helped. There is a similar project, based on v0174, but it has little bit different theme, update schedule and list of available countries. https://www.garmin.vasam.cz

    If you are into it, you can generate your own maps, the source code is provided as open source.

    I experience the exact same issue. :( My watch is on the latest firmware (13.22). Every time when I hit "Configure Maps" in an activity, the watch gets frozen. Interestingly, if I use the system menu, I can configure the maps without any issue. The freeze just appears when I'm trying to configure the maps in the settings of a specific activity (e.g., trail runnung). 

    I use a custom map and it has worked perfectly on my Forerunner 945 without any issues. :( I still did not sell it, and I am seriously thinking of switching back to it, and selling the 955 instead. 955 is a huge step back in so many tiny but annoying aspects.

    Try using a different version of the map. But it's true that Garmin could modify/fix it so that instead of the watch freezing, the "damaged" map would just not work.

    The map is not "damaged". It is working fine on all other units I know (Fenix 5 Plus, Fenix 6, Forerunner 945, Oregon, Dakota). I am using the same map source for more than 10 years without any issues. 

    It is also working on the Forerunner 955. I see the map, and I can use it for navigation too. The only thing I cannot do is to switch to another map in the activity settings (e.g., use the built-in map in Ski activity.

    yes, I understand you well. I also have the same problem. But I found a newer version for my map (Freemap), which does not cause my fr955 to freeze. And I've been using those maps without any problems on FR945 and Edge 530. Unfortunately, we either have to wait until they fix it or put up with it.

    Thanks! I am planning to send a bug report to Garmin to make them clear that this happens to a lot of the 955 users.

    Hello. After this thread I have rechecked the use of the Map configuration, both in its configuration or in any activity. It confirms again that the FR 955 IS NOT INTENDED for handling with maps like its Fénix brother. After updating to SFW 13.22 its use with the personal map sometimes freezes, screen goes back, direction buttons don't work...it's getting worse...

    A mi me pasa exactamente igual. solo con mapas libres OSM y Topocanarias . El caso es que solo puedo usar uno a uno sin ningún tipo de selección ya que se bloquea.  SIn embargo en Fenix 6 pro funcionan correctamente.  Sabéis si esta prevista su corrección?
