Does anybody know if Garmin still split the software in apac/row for this model ?

TL;DR no, they don't. It looks APAC and WW/ROW have the same software now.
Interestingly, the Connect IQ SDK device file for 955 only shows one part number (006-B4024-00) which supports both worldwide…
Was not that easy. Same *** remain, so do NOT buy a apac if you want more than a software upgrade once a year or something like that. And forget about the Betaprogram too.

Strange that they would say that, since there is only one part number for 955 now, as opposed to the separate WW and APAC part numbers for older devices. I'll assume that they know what they're talking…

Interestingly, the Connect IQ SDK device file for 955 only shows one part number (006-B4024-00) which supports both worldwide/ROW and APAC languages - this means there's only one firmware version as well. The same goes for some other models in the same gen (like 255). Fenix 7 series watches do have multiple part numbers, but they all support APAC languages and the full set of WW languages.
Previous devices definitely had multiple part numbers; there was usually 1 for worldwide (without APAC language support, but with lots of WW languages) and 1 for APAC (with APAC language support, but fewer WW languages). In the past, software updates for the APAC variant always lagged behind, which was apparently very annoying for APAC users (I'd be annoyed.)
Someone on reddit posted this:
Understand that APAC models will receive firmware update slower than ROW models.
This has supposedly changed with the Fenix 7, Epix 2, FR255 and FR955. There are no longer differences in software between the APAC models and ROW models.
This was confirmed to me by both a Garmin dealer in HK as well as a Garmin support staff.

Hello Jan,
if you are buying it in Asia ,it will have APAC software. It will function the same, but may update on a different timeframe.
Thank you for choosing Garmin,

Hello, can you confirm that it's no more apac and ROW software on this model ? I currently live in Asia, and have always imported my devices from Europe or U.S.A.
Would be nice to buy it locally here.

Done, thank you. And if they know what they talking about, well well. But i find it very strange that they now say you can upload any language to the watch. For what would they keep the APAC then, but ok, i keep the Fenix 6 and forget about it. Doesn't matter so much what model you have anyway, you will still be a betatester for most of the watch lifespan.
@FowState Obviously, there are more part numbers according to country. For example GB is non-APAC country, US is sometimes considered as APAC country (?).
955 Solar black:

955 non-solar black:

https://www.garmin.com/en-US/p/777655/pn/010-02638-10 - PART NUMBER 010-02638-10
Edit: For example Malaysia or Korea seem to have other different part numbers.
I have seen the same. Now I will be able to buy the 010-02638-00 version 955 Solar in the USA. But I am living in the EU where the default available model is the 010-02638-20.
Is it worth to buy the USA -00 one? Does the hardware spec. should be the same? GPS, Wi-Fi frequencies?
In this case which is the APAC? Which is the WW? I have checked the Japan site, where it is listed as a Dual power and ending to -D0. So confusing to me?
If you are living in the EU, no problem. Buy there, much more easy if you need the warranty. The BIG problem is the APAC models, they are not enrolled in the beta program, and usually get the software updates once or maybe twive a year. And if something happen during the warranty period it's a pain in the ass. Then you have 2 options, send it back to US or Europe where you bought it, or get a APAC replacement in the country you live in. I am living in Thailand, buing from either US or Europe. Had a hope that the new generation watches was the same software now, but No. So i keep my Fenix 6 pro as long as it work. Not some new features i can't live withouth anyway on the new watches.

Got it. I was only referring to the "part number" listed in the Connect IQ SDK (which correlates to language support and firmware version), which is actually different from the what I'll call the "retail" part number that you see on the website for ordering. Sorry I didn't make that clear.
The SDK only lists the one part number for 955 (006-B4024-00), and says that it has support for all the usual non-APAC and APAC languages, unlike previous models which had multiple CIQ part numbers, and where language support was split between them. e.g. some part numbers had all the APAC languages and a handful of non-APAC languages (i.e. APAC models), while others had all the non-APAC languages and no APAC languages (i.e. non-APAC models).
Although the Connect IQ part number is different from the retail part number, it's the CIQ part number that is used to determine the language support and available CIQ / firmware version for a given device.
e.g. The 945 device info in the CIQ SDK states that there are two CIQ part numbers:
- 006-B3113-00 (WW / non-APAC): supports firmware version 9.0 and CIQ 3.3.1
- 006-B3441-00 (APAC): supports firmware version 7.8 and CIQ 3.2.5
If I build a CIQ app for 945 and specify it needs CIQ 3.3.1 at a minimum, then the app won't be available to APAC devices
However, the 955 device info only has one CIQ part number:
- 006-B4024-00 (APAC and non-APAC): supports firmware version 10.10 and CIQ 4.1.2
So from the POV of a CIQ app there is only one kind of 955 device, although of course, there's multiple kinds even within the same region, with regards to color and solar vs non-solar capability.
The reason this is significant (as far as I know), is that CIQ apps need to know the language capabilities and firmware version of a device.
