Crash/reboot: Bike Activity, paging past Map page using buttons

this was my first bike ride using my 955 solar. when i scrolled through pages of data (only have 4-5) and passed the map page with the intention to see the clock... the watch crashed and restarted itself.  when i rebooted, it brought up a resume option on the first page (speed, distance, total time).
i haven't had a problem having maps as a page of data on the run activity so not sure what happened here. i didn't dare go back to the map page as i didn't want to keep interrupting my ride dealing with reboot/crashing issues.
  • so... i had this happen today on a run as i was going through a ton of different data pages. i noticed that as i "passed the map" it was partially drawing but i wanted to get back to the first page of data and it crashed. when this happened on my bike, i had assumed i had a "black page" and crash, but now i wonder if the problem is the watch can't redraw the map in time and then it crashes.

Garmin wrote me saying to try biking again once i got the new firmware (i haven't gotten it yet). as i have noted before, i can't get it to happen at the start of an activity, but i guess maybe i need to muck around while driving (ie, not tracking a real activity) to see if i can reproduce it and/or see if it is really gone when i get 11.12.

anyone still have this problem on 11.12?

if so, please report it to Garmin! ;)

  • well, i have reason for cautious optimism:

i just went on a run just now, and at the end of the run, i consciously tried to trip up my watch by paging quickly to the maps page and low and behold, it didn't crash and displayed the map!

so, it's 1 for 1, but this gives me some hope that things are little more stable. i'l be curious to hear if any others encounter map crashes with 11.12. hoping at least this bug is now fixed. time will tell. i think i will continue my strategy for the next few runs (ie, it won't disturb my activities much if it crashes the last few seconds)
