it did it again to me. very frustrating. i tried it first before i even started the bike activity and it was fine showing the map, but when i went to scroll to look at the clock, i got a black map screen…
yeah i got this on bike and hike. Still waiting for stable firmware.
Hmmm, i think i have also used map on ywo bike rides before (just 30-40 minutes each) and that seemed to work fine.
I'll see if i can reproduce this somehow.
Man, going to do the eiger51 in 1.5 weeks…

Man, going to do the eiger51 in 1.5 weeks and I'm kinda started to get worried how this watch will behave. Had hoped for a way more stable watch after 1.5 months.
luckily no crashes here so far (apart from the map related one where you can't choose a location on the map to navigate to) but especially considering it's a long event I am a bit scared...
Was planning on just starting an activity with a full battery and let it run the day to see if that works ok, at least to build some trust ;)
Ah well, we'll see

I feel the same way. Going to start at ZUT in 1.5 weeks. Had actually hoped to get a more stable firmware until than.
I've disabled maps on all my activity profiles and since then I have not had a single crash/reboot. In that time I've done a half ironman, a 200km road ride and some runs. Having no maps until now has been really annoying though and I will also need that functionality soon.
I REALLY want to have the maps as a backup though, heh... They are likely not necessary for that particular activity but still, for peace of mind.
And same as MikeDozer , maps and touch are my main reasons for the 955 and the fact that they have kinda messed exactly those up is quite disappointing. But yeah, if I really am afraid for a crash it might be the worst-case solution though, cheers.
thanks for all the checks and commiseration. i honestly only need maps for my backpacking, but they are a nice "backup" while running and cycling so i am used to having those screens available (they worked fine on my 945LTE).
i'm concerned about the stability of this with my backpacking trips coming up next month. i too am hoping for a more stable firmware to be coming soon. for now, i'll disable maps on cycling but i may do a "trial" hike because i really want to use maps backpacking and hiking.
i have used maps using "navigate course" while running in different towns for vacation and it worked fine with the Run activity.
