Forerunner 955 Keeps Disconnecting from Phone

Anyone else experiencing an issue with their Forerunner 955 disconnecting from their phone - it's happening to me several times a day...the watch immediately reconnects when I open the Connect app but at several times throughout the day I will look at my watch and see the phone icon with a line through it (usually I am prompted to look because I will get a text on my phone but no alert on my watch). I have confirmed I have the most recent versions for the watch and app software and have also tried re-pairing. I am using an iphone 13 pro max on ios 15.5.

  • I’ve just spent an unhappy few hours with my 955 refusing to connect to my iphone before I realised that it was already connected to my ipad! Problem is that the watch doesn’t tell you it’s already connected somewhere else and, whilst it was connected to the ipad, there wasn’t an app running that was using it.

    so the the learning point here is, check every possible device it could be connected to. But you probably all knew that.

  • I constantly have this problem. I’ve tried turning the watch off and back on. Occasionally that helps. Very irritating. Ready to get rid of the watch. iPhone 14 pro. All updates done. Irritated. 

  • Not much info that you are providing, exect that you are irritated and ready to get rid of your watch..... Even though the problem is not even the watch but settings on your iphone.

    So What FW are you on your watch?

    have your watch been connected to computer/ipad/tablet/other phone with bluetooth? 
    If you open Connect on your iphone is it then connected ?
    Have you enabled all settings for the connect app on your iphone?
    Especially Location Services needs to be enabled and Background updates.

    If you dont set location services to allways then the connection is removed when you close the app - so best idea is always to keep connect app running in the background.

    Also you are responding to a 9 month old message.. If the problem persists then create a new message. 

    / - Could you take a look at if  it would it be possible to autolock old messages?

  • Not much info because... I got rid of the watch (Epix). I've got multiple Garmin watches, none exhibiting any issues. Simply unwilling to mess around with this - i expected it to work, just like my other watches.

    Since the last update my watch disconnects from Garmin Connect mobileversion  4.59.023 . I have to restart my Forerunner 955 Solar to reconnect, but connection drops irregularly. 
    I’m IOS 16.5.1c on a IPhone 14 Pro

    anyone experiencing the same problems?

  • Yes, I have the same problems. I see some people suggest “forgetting” the Bluetooth connection. And reconnecting after the disconnect. I’ll try to find a photo of the process for you. It’s in these forums.

  • I changed location services to “always on” in the iOS setting for the Garmin Connect app instead of “while using this app”. That seems to have been my fix. Perhaps now the phone is always looking for a constant connection with the watch.
