Forerunner 955 Keeps Disconnecting from Phone

Anyone else experiencing an issue with their Forerunner 955 disconnecting from their phone - it's happening to me several times a day...the watch immediately reconnects when I open the Connect app but at several times throughout the day I will look at my watch and see the phone icon with a line through it (usually I am prompted to look because I will get a text on my phone but no alert on my watch). I have confirmed I have the most recent versions for the watch and app software and have also tried re-pairing. I am using an iphone 13 pro max on ios 15.5.

  • no problems on iPhone 13pro on ios15.5. sorry to hear about your issues.

Thanks for letting me know - I may try doing a factory reset and repairing to see if that helps.

I ended up doing a factory reset and reinstalling the app and then repairing and it has been good since - fingers crossed it stays that way!

  • I am having intermittent issues with my 955 and iPhone 13 Pro.  Bluetooth says connected, but GC and the watch are not seeing each other … Restarting the watch is a simple but annoying fix.

  • This (Bluetooth issue) seems to pop up not only with FR955, but with other latest-generation watches. I returned my Epix 2 for this reason - and I suspect this is a H/W design issue, as none of my other watches ever exhibited this behaviour, where as these forums see the odd Bluetooth reconnect issue mentioned more than ever before lately.

I was hoping for some clear message from Garmin before buying another/different model, and there is none I am aware of, so postponing purchase... :-(

  • This may be your phone pausing the Garmin Connect background service in favour of some other app, or for battery optimization. I get it occasionally too on Android, especially if I've just used the camera app which uses a lot of memory.

  • I don't see why my two other Garmin watches behave diffrently... ("none of my other watches ever exhibited this behaviou") - and I have been using them for *years* now,  on the very same phone...

  • Yes I noticed this recently (the last two days) where the 955 does not reconnect to the bluetooth. . Even going to the bluetooth part of IOS and pressing on the FR955 didnt result in it reconnecting. Also toggled the bluetooth switch. I decided to remove device from the IOS bluetooth and then wait for it to ask to re-pair.

  • I am quite certain this is not it since quitting the app and even toggling BT on my phone did not resolve it until I restarted the watch.

  • Yes I did have so success with that a few times.
