Need help/advice for HM race with Forerunner 945!

As the title mentions, I need some help/advice with regarding how to approach my Half Marathon.

If i put a race(with a time to complete the HF) on my calendar and set is as primary race event will the Daily Suggested Workout take the race into consideration or this does not impact the DSW.

And if thats the case what's my best option for creating a plan for running my HF in a certain time, should I just follow the DSW or just start a Garmin Coach.

    DSW are customized for a specific event. Mostly, a plan with different phases (base, build, peak, taper, race) are introduced to vary the training load. It is unclear whether the training focus gets modified for each type of race (from a 5k to a full M).

    And if thats the case what's my best option for creating a plan for running my HF in a certain time, should I just follow the DSW or just start a Garmin Coach.

    Enter the course in your race event. This will help you get more accurate race predictions for your HM. In turn, this will set expectations/objectives for you. Then, follow the workouts. 

    The big benefit of the DSW is that they adapt to your current performance and training load. Unfortunately, they tend to lack enough recovery/rest days. If you are above 40, I recommend you train one day out of two. Just ignore the DSW as required. The follow one will adjust.

    You can also use Garmin Coach plans if you have enough weeks before the event. This gives the advantage of setting a goal for the race and customize how many workouts you want per week. If you use Garmin Coach, you will still see DSW under training > workout library.

  • Thank you so much for the explanation, since I was not sure if the DWS changes on the Forerunner 945, since there is no Race Day widget, my race of the HM is in October I have a lot of time to prepare it so i was not sure with what to start with, but if you say that DWS is adapting to the race than I guess i can stop my HM coach plan, because I tried to set the race as my primary but when i wanted to sync with my watch it said its not compatible. 

    So I am still not sure if thats working on not...

    Hmmm... This article says it is compatible with 945 LTE, but doesn't mention the 945. I read too fast. So it looks like the feature is not available to your watch.

    That said, the level of customization for a specific event is notable, but not remarkable. I don't think you will get a bad training plan if you follow the DSW. Since you have a Coach Plan going, you should probably stick with it.
