Why does my FR 945 suddenly stop tracking while running?

Hi, guys

I'm so curious about if the issue I sometimes faced to is being occured to other FR 945 owners.

I'm still really satisfied with my Forerunner 945 since I had it 3 years ago. However, I noticed it suddenly stops tracking running and back to the original FR 945 default watch face(the image attached below). I'm using the running data field named "F3b Dozen Run" from IQ store and I really like this one to track my running habbits.

I don't doubt if the issue has been happening occasionally becaue of the running data.  When my watch stops tracking and back to the original FR 945 watch face, after I start run for 5~6 min. As I said before it actually happens not quite often, but I'm still being interrupted whenever it happens and I find out checking my pace. In addition, I press Start/Stop botton as soon as I saw and realized that my watch stopped tracking and it continued to re-track all the informaion, such as GPS, Pace, Heartneat and others supplied by the data I used for running. Have any body had the exact issue ever before ?

How can I make the issue stop being happening?

  • Try using a run profile without F3b Dozen Run and see it that helps. If it helps then there is something wrong with that data field that makes the activity stop.

There is at least one review for that data field from a user that experience the same issue as you experience.

  • Thanks a lot for your reply.

Do you think it could be possible that i have the same issue when i use a cutomed watch face from IQ?

  • I don't think the watchface is the issue here since it isn't active during an activity, but exactly how everything works in the watch is hard to say without looking at and running the code...which I don't have access to.

  • From today I will try to use the default run data field from Garmin for a while.

However, what if the same issue comes out despite using the default run data field?

And suggestion if so in the near future ?

Then do a factory reset. You will lose your configuration of the profiles so there will be some work to get the watch back into current settings.

I did it a few weeks ago and it was refreshing to start over. I've documented how my profiles are setup and how my data screens and fields should be configured. It is just some work to get it back.

  • Backup the device drive beforehand then copy the activity setting back to your device.

  • Good tip!

I accidently did a factory reset on my watch while I was trying to help another user with that so I've never tried doing a backup and restoring it.

Note that if you do a factory reset by holding and releasing buttons at startup you will not get a question if you really want to do a factory reset. It will just do it :-)

    1. Ensure the watch is powered off.
    2. Press and hold the Down, Start, and Back buttons.
    3. Power the watch on while holding these buttons.
    4. After the first beep release the Start button.
    5. After the second beep release the remaining buttons.
  • Thanks a lot your help !!

So you don't back up you device when you did factory format your garmin watch ?

Anyway, this afternoon I ran with the default run data field and unfortunately the issue came out again ...
Damn.. as soon as I saw it I pressed start button and it went to the run data filed screen and continued tracking when it re-connected to GPS

    I would've if I would do a factory reset...but this time I accidently reset the watch :-)

    the issue came out again

Next step is probably a factory reset.

  • I am a bit confused about the situation - but sounds like it is still recording the run ?  If you go up/down with the left arrow keys does it show your normal widgets(?) like music, calendar, training status , body battery , etc?

OR... does it then show your other running screens with pace / HR / distance?

Also have you tried a simple hard restart?  (hold upper left button for 35seconds until screen goes black... and then power it back up)
