Some advice before upgrading / replacing a watch or a hard reset

I have noticed from the content of a number of posts that many are not aware that one can copy across Activity Data Screen setting to your new / replacement device. (I am not sure across how many device ages/revisions this may work , but I've had success always so far) You may be able to do other items as well but this is the main thing I do as its fiddly to recreate screens across many Activity types each time.

It is important to create a backup of your Garmin device drive onto your laptop BEFORE a hard rest or selling / upgrading your watch.  I would also ensure you are running the latest FW

You can see some notes on that here:

Then when your new watch is setup up , copy the specific Activity you want onto the Watch device drive (This is normally the SPORTS subfolder)

Then do a soft reset . You may find some screens dont appear , as for example IQ data fields if they are not compatible with your new device , But this helps a lot.

Also with the new Physio True up , things are much better on that front now also!

PS. I take random backups of my device drive just in case.....so if it crashes I have activity screen settings etc,.

I hope this is of some use.
