HRV 945 is not available and it is in the 945 LTE. Can someone from Garmin answer?

I feel cheated and angry with Garmin and its support. Apparently due to a commercial decision we cannot use this functionality.

A year ago I bought a 945 as a premium range watch and today we cannot take advantage of this functionality due to a commercial decision that it is available from the 945 lte.

Can someone from Garmin comment on this or would they remain silent?
  • Really, I think with their current line up , feature set... I don't see why they even make half of the watches any longer.  They all have very similar features and it is all just minor software enables to differentiate price points... that is their plan/strategy.  The entire watch lineup these days is nearly the same since they added HR to everything and use the same chipsets for GPS/optical.

but yes, the FR series is supposed to be below the Fenix... so it is not really surprising that a generation old Fenix would be supported better than a 2 gen old FR.  Although Fenix and 945 had the exact same features... just the Fenix has the gaudy metal stuff going on to justify a bigger price.  I preferred the FR945 looks... so that is what I got.  I understand that 4yrs later... i don't really care that they are not adding features like on the Fenix.  I get it.

  • Although Fenix and 945 had the exact same features.

    Did they though?

    Garmin | Compare 945 vs Fenix 6

What changed since release date that allowed the 945 to catch up (somewhat) to the Fenix 6? Some that I know of:

    • 6 data fields per data page
    • Widget glances
    • Design esthetics that Fenix 6 always had, such as editing data fields in place

What are the differences still, as far as I know:

    • Sleep tracking accuracy
    • Easier power mode customization
    • Activity Profiles: Boating, Tactical, Jumpmaster, maybe more
    • Durability, such as metal, titanium, sapphire glass
  • Yeah very slight differences, but some of the ones you mentioned are in the upgraded optional feature units.  The base or Pro verison didn't have the glass or solar, and in the case of Base was missing some mapping/music/wifi (which i didn't even recall!) weird considering that the F6 came out months AFTER the FR945.  So 'always had' ... well thats cuz it is newer.  could/should compare 945 to the existing at the time F5plus maybe...

    better comparision/roundup:  https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2019/08/garmin-fenix6-pro-solar-series-review.html

But really the difference is the metal bezel and power modes.  sleep tracking is subjective and a mess on all watches, non-training/athletic niche activities... nonstarter for most garmin users (and definitely myself) really.  oooh can I log a wingsuit dive?!  or bocce ball?  lol smh

Really wish they would get ride of FR9 or Epix series... replace with a non-metal Fenix or extra Fancy bezels/straps and be done with it!!  Similar with all the enduro/instinct/tactix/blahblah... just make slightly different bezel choices for people who want a chonky watch look.

  • To me the 945 and Fenix 6 were the same generation watches. Both were released in 2019 (spring & fall) and both are similar if not identical in hardware (excluding the appearance and perhaps antenna). To the best of my knowledge the software teams are different which resulted in different features, bugs and updates for the watches.

Clearly the 945 team was either inferior by talent or deliberately made slower or understaffed. And no, I don't either expect to get new features for a four year old product but not getting the hrv update which the Fenix 6 got last year was a little disappointing. Which brings me to my earlier point that if the two lines would share the same software team it would be trivial to push the same features and updates for both.

Garmin surely has done its market research and knows that it's still a few steps ahead of the competition, which enables it to do this yearly software up sell tactics. Business is business and I do hope the competition caches up quickly so it puts pressure to Garmin to up its game and make it think how to keep customers coming back.

Offline maps and battery life are the only things keeping me still in Garmins camp. Now just trying to rationalize to myself why I shouldn't cave in for the 965 - the inferior software support and the domed glass is helping but only a little.
