Garmin Connect <> Forerunner 945 lost all ability to sync as of a few days ago - bug with March 4th 2022 Android update?

As of March 8th, 2022, no activities will sync from my Garmin Forerunner 945 to my phone or my connect account. I connected my phone to my computer and manually uploaded the .fit files and confirmed everything was fine there. After that, I've uninstalled the Garmin Connect app on my Android phone and factory reset (reset to defaults and removed all data) from the watch twice, including once with skipping "True Up".

Wi-Fi sync from the watch does not work, and neither does sync between my phone and my watch (see screenshots 2-6 below).

I don't seem to be the only person having issues, Garmin Connect has fresh 1-star reviews in the Android Play Store that say the same thing (see 1st screenshot below). Looks like Garmin may have introduced a bug with their March 4th, 2022 updates.

Any help available from Garmin to resolve this issue?

    Before you try this ensure your watch is removed from Garmin Connect Mobile first, THEN remove it from your phone's Bluetooth settings if it is there. Restart both watch and phone before re-pairing your watch through Garmin Connect Mobile again.

  • A further update, after "Delete Data & Settings" on the watch I tried installing Garmin Connect on my iPad, signing in on the iPad with a brand new Garmin account, and then pairing through the iOS app. I got the same error in the Garmin Connect app.

     

    This is convincing me the watch update to 9.00 on or around March 4th borked my watch. I tried upgrading the watch firmware to 9.56 as per https://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=14933 , and after "Delete Data & Settings" on the watch, and uninstall Garmin app on android/forget the watch from the android settings/clean start I'm still getting the exact same error.

    Does anyone know if there is a way for me to either (1) install 8.82 on the watch to downgrade to the version before all these issues started, or (2) to completely flash the firmware on the watch to a known good state?
