About indoor cycling data

Hi All

I am using F945 while cycling. Normally after I finish, I sync with Garmin Connect on my Smartphone (Samsung S10) and the data is recorded in the calendar, accruing to the challenges I subscribe to.

Now I use an indoor cycling device and use Rouvy App with ANT+ connection with Garmin speed and cadence sensors. Rouvy App records all the information when performing a virtual journey. I export data from Rouvy (in FIT format) and import it into Garmin Connect and it's OK.

The data is logged in the activity calendar, but it doesn't add up to the cycling challenge for the month I signed up for. VO2 values, exercise intensity were also not recorded.

Are those values not recorded by the F945 so Garmin Connect doesn't count?

  • My experience with Rouvy and Garmin is that only data recorded on the Garmin directly will count. I have my Tacx Vortes Smart 2 sending the watch power data only and add the speed and cadence from the bike sensor. That data goes to Garmin and then counts for the VO2max calcs and other metrics. Meanwhile, Rouvy gets the power, speed, and cadence from the trainer and sends that to Strava.

That speed and distance differs between the watch and ROuvy are of no consequence as it only the power data from the trainer that matters for Garmin.

BTW, if you are not controlling the trainer from the watch do not connect it as a trainer, just power.

  • Imported activities do not count for challenges and badges. You must log your activities with a Garmin device for them to count.

VO2 max is calculated on the device (Garmin device).

Training status is supported for Zwift, TrainerRoad, The Sufferfest and Tacx App. Not Rouvy.

In your case you must log your activity with your FR945. Then everything works.
It might also work if you switch device in the FIT file before you import: https://www.fitfiletools.com/

  • Yeah unfortuneatly things like Training Effect, vo2max and things like that are handled by the Garmin Device (watch/bikecomputer).  So to track training load and get all the metrics on Garmin, you need to record the activity on the watch, if you delete the activity afterwards and import the Rouvey FIT file to get more data (elevation? ) the Training Effect and vo2max scores will remain in Garmin.  (good and bad)  I have learned this because when I run without a chest strap or it gives bad data... Garmin gives me a crazy Training Effect and drops my vo2max a couple/few points!  Deleting the garbage run data doesn't make the bad training data go away.... ugh!  But for you... could be perfect!

Otherwise often I just edit the distance to match my RGT Cycling virtual rides or split the difference with my speed sensor.
