Native Power

Is it too hard to implement such function since Garmin already have it on Edge family? If so, why even small companies such Coros provide it their clients?

It was a FR935 request more than 4 years ago. FOUR years!

I do believe that Premium Product buyers desert a bit more from Garmin, honestly.

  • I think this boils down to two things:

    - You overestimate the amount of people interested in running power.
    - You don't understand how the process works. If someone requests something it doesn't mean that Garmin will do it, even X years later.

  • - You overestimate the amount of people interested in running power.

What did the OP say that you've come to the conclusion they are overestimating?  I'd be interested in the numbers of people interested vs not interested if you can provide them.  Maybe you're underestimating?

    - You don't understand how the process works. If someone requests something it doesn't mean that Garmin will do it, even X years later.

That's for sure.  Otherwise allowing user's to edit and add their own exercises would have been implemented years ago.

  • What did the OP say that you've come to the conclusion they are overestimating?

Not anything specific just the whole post, but especially that comparison to Coros.

Coros might have calculated that Garmin doesn't have it, we can differentiate and maybe those then will buy our watch.

  • Oh yes, hatters will always hate.

    Fact check:

    - all major players have it.
    - even Garmin have it on its Edge line.

    in short:

I do believe there is demand (me and all major sports watch companies).

it’s not that Garmin doesn’t know how to implement or it is complex, again: they already have it.

to conclude: I want value for my money: Even small companies do offer it for $300 and although we happily pay 2x as much, we still don’t get such function years later!

  • to conclude: I want value for my money:

We all want value for money. Garmin deliver.

However, native running power wasn't there when you purchased the watch. Garmin have (AFAIK) never promised it. If you really want it that bad then perhaps the thing to do is to sell your 945 and get one of the other watches.

And of course, feel free to contact Garmin Support and register your interest in the meantime.

  • Running power is available from CIQ apps, and its a Garmin developped app. So I guess this is pretty close to what you are requesting. You just need to install it. You can then use it as a field and it appears in Garmin Connect (even in third party apps like Nolio)

  • Please, you're being ridicolous.

Garmin Edge series support Power from watt pedals, cranks etc. In biking it's a rather objective value.

When it comes to running it's some sort of voodoo magic, as no running power derivation compares to another (garmin vs stryde vs coros etc...)

And if you buy the HRM-Pro you can have Running Power, as good as native, by an official Garmin CIQ app.

  • The Garmin Running Power CIQ apps require a paired sensor (HRM-RUN, RD Pod for example) that provides the running power data. The apps do not provide native running power calculations on their own.

  • 1. Thank you for the compliment.

    2. Pedals or Cranks sends a ANT signal and the head unit process it, so there is no difference if this "signal" is estimated or phisically quantified. Jesus!

    3. I do have all the sensors and BTW, Garmin HRM-PRO PM provides just the worst estimation out there ATM.

I can conclude that you have no clue what I am talking about when I say: NATIVE. Well, considering your level of education, expected.

  • Thanks for your reply but the OP says: NATIVE.

I do have CIQ installed. It simply doest work with structured workouts.

i.e: if I set a power range on my workout I just get a blank screen. If you are going recreational, just fine, but if you have specific targeted workouts, well…
