Altitude wrong

I am a helicopter pilot and fly at different altitudes.

Since 10 days my FR945 seems to miss my landings. The altitude goes up (roughly correct) but not down again.

Anyone experiencing the same?

  • Pretty likely. This requires a ticket at Garmin - which means grappling with quite professional push back...

  • Today with no changes in Config i ride for 90km and altitude profile was completely flat with min value = max value but with different and making sense values in increasing and decreasing quota

    Any hints?

    i ride for 90km

I'm assuming on a bike?  How much of an elevation change were you seeing; min - max?  Was it mounted on your handle bars or wrist?  Any wind gust?  Most importantly, what was your barometer displaying both start and finish on this ride?

  • Te I was riding my bike, watch on my wrist, no particular wind conditions neither wind gust

from start to finish -500m ( i am at 120m and now there is high pressure so could be fine)

    quota increase 194 m Quota decrease 292m

  • Just checked on the watch it was flat at -500 until 2 hours ago now it’s +90 (meteo didn’t change so suddenly)

    What happened  ?

Something is going on.  I don't know if you use meters or feet for elevation, but there shouldn't be an instantaneous change from -541 to 93 on your elevation graph either way and the same with the barometer.  It's looks like the barometer was "stuck" at an erroneous measurement and then just kicked in.  I would restart my watch and then calibrate both the altitude and pressure to your current location and see what happens next.

  • My barometer has been getting worse lately too. It works properly when I run and there is little elevation. But if I go up a mountain with the car then it's like it gets stuck and ultimately doesn't give the correct altitude. The pressure change has nothing to do with it because the start and finish have a very similar pressure

The 945 has a barometric altimeter.  They work hand in hand and not independently of each other.  Are you certain of this?  It's the change in pressure which is going to change your elevation.

  • I was referring to the barometric pressure of the widget. At a certain point of the uphill journey it also changes by 20 millibars and then remains stable, but so on arrival I find myself with an incorrect altitude (and pressure). When I calibrate the altimeter to the correct altitude, the widget's barometer also drops by those 20 millibars
