Multisport / Swimrun mode and quick release?

Hi,

Looking at Forerunner 945/Fenix 6S pro and the crux of it for me is swim run and quick release kits.

At the moment I have a 920xt which is limited in how many 'multisport' legs you can have so I'm wondering if anyone knows the max for multisport mode? Also the Fenix page seems to imply it has a separate swim run mode under swimming which the 945 lacks on it's page. Can anyone tell me if this is true or not? Also do they also both have pocket mode?

I have my 920xt on a quick release kit one of the old school ones where the quarter turn mount is on the strap and then on your bike so you can twist the watch bit off but are left with the strap on your wrist (I use this as I struggle to get my wetsuit off over the 920xt so can twist it off, wetsuit off, and then either just pop it back on the strap which has stayed on my wrist or put it on my bike depending on what activity is up next) - it looks like something like this is possible with the 945, does anyone have any experience of it?

Any advice or comments welcome as there doesn't seem to be a lot out there about swim run mode especially

Thanks

  • I don't know of any limit for the number of legs/parts of a multisport activity. I don't think there is one. The max number of legs I've tested with are 47 and that would be enough for most occasions.

I don't remember if there was a standard swimrun mode in 945, but it is easy to create one. I got one but I don't remember if it was there by default or if I created it. Create a multisport activity with two activities: run and swim, turn on repeat. Done! Every time you press lap the activity type will switch.

I haven't tested any quick release kits. I use a shorty wetsuit so getting the arms over the watch isn't an issue.

  • There is swimrun as on own sport. But the Sony GPS chipsets have not been really good in swimrun and they seem to miss swims :( But it's the same in both of those.

No idea what is pocket mode. Haven't have any problems with max legs, and no idea is there one.

And don't use QR kits, I don't doo much transitions with bike and if I do, then I can just change it from hand to bike and so on, it'll cost couple of seconds but so not.

  • This is why you should post in only one thread. Read what I posted there.

Only if you use the auto change option. if you manually change between the swims and runs there aren't any problems that I've experienced. I've only lost swims when using auto change..

What do you call those then? The problem is that it looses swim tracks and in the best case it's not using the same normalization or algorithm than in Open water swim.

  • Can't argue with that. I've edited my post ro read:

  • I'm not using auto change :(

  • Thank you for your comments on the watches.

As Garmin have choosen to sort their forums by watch type asking in both forums is entirely appropriate as I am seeking the experiences of both those user groups. I wouldn't expect fenix users to be looking in the 945 forum and vice versa and value both groups opinions.

And I did use the search function to see what information was already availale prior to asking :)
