6.20 & Jaybird Vista

Hi team has anyone tested the new 6.2 software with Jaybird Vista? Back up and running? Please say yes...!

  • Pretty simple: it worked fine until 5.20. Garmin decided to update something and since then its broken. If you break it you should fix it.

Garmin's responsible to ensure their updates continue to work with someone else's product?  There's no contract between the two companies like there is between Garmin and Spotify.  If your phone updates, is it the phone manufacture who's responsible for any 2nd party apps to continue to work?  Of course not. My UConnect system in my truck worked fine with my LG phone a couple of years back until there was an update. There was no guarantee or responsibility by UConnect that my phone would continue to work with their system.  Same goes for my new Samsung phone that's currently working with it. Have you ever updated a computer's operating system just to have a software program no longer work on it?  Why do you think this is any different?

I am reporting reports of this if you are experiencing this issue please answer the questions below.

    • Does it always happen at the same time after starting an activity, or does it appear to be random?
    • Does it happen if you listen to music outside of an activity?
    • When it disconnects, does it say disconnected or is it a drop/quick reconnect?
    • Is this occurring indoors, outdoors or Both?
    • Occurs randomly during an activity. Sometimes it remains connected for 4 minutes; sometimes for 9 minutes. Once it stayed connected for only 30 seconds before dropping.
    • I have experienced this 5-30secs after an activity has completed, so I guess it can happen outside of an activity.
    • When it disconnects, the “Not connected” prompt eventually plays but only after several seconds. It does not reconnect automatically. You either have to wait for the watch to recognize it has disconnected (Pause symbol changes to Play symbol indicating the music has stopped), then press the Play button to initiate reconnect, OR go into watch settings, Headphones, turn headphone status off and back on.
    • Occurs both indoors and outdoors.
  • Ok, it seems I fixed the issue ... after some trial and errors. Under update 6.2, I completely erased and reloaded Sprotify (had to reload all my playlists). Once that completed, I restarted my 945 (turned off than on) and boom voilà! Jaybird Vista and 945 is now working seamlessly. Did a few 12k runs since and ... not one bluetooth drop out. I’m no expert here so take this with a grain of salt but that sequence worked for me. Hope this helps, cheers!

  • Thanks for the feedback - I will try the same and report back how it goes!

  • Fuji_monk you legend. I deleted Spotify entirely from my watch, reinstalled and reloaded all playlists. I then turned off 945 and back on. Since then I have done some 20 minute commute rides and a 90 minute outdoor run with my watch streaming Spotify to my Vistas with zero drop outs. Only a few data points but looking good - it was happening every single outdoor run before this within 5 minutes.

    • I can confirm that I am now running 6.20 with my Jaybird Vistas and am no longer getting dropouts at all.
  • My vistas now work with my FR 945. What fixed it? Garmin swapped me watches. They sent me a refurbished replacement and just ran 7 miles / 52 minutes with 0 dropouts. Bonus, headphones had previously been connected to phone and I took my phone with me and had successful live track as well. Voice prompts also returned and are working.

maybe they switched Bluetooth modules or something along the way? My original 945 was an extremely early model (ordered from clever training within a minute of being announced/released in 2019). Maybe this is an issue for older units. Refurb is working and looking great and also does not suffer from the soft (not clicking) buttons my previous unit always had.

  • I want to share my experience as well. I tried two things, from which one did work and the other weirdly didnt.

    So here's what didnt work:

    1. Deleting Spotify and Headphones

    2. Restarting Watch

    3. adding Spotify, downloading a playlist, adding Headphones

    4. Restarting watch

Result was the well known dropout after roughly 6 min.

    This is what worked:

    1. Deleting Spotify

    2. Adding Spotify, downloading a playlist

    3. Restarting the watch

But seems to be working fine now.
