Software 6.2 - Connecting 945 to Concept2 PM5 monitor

"Added support for displaying metrics from an indoor rowing machine that supports the ANT FE-C profile (e.g. Concept 2 with the PM5 module). This includes new fields for the Indoor Rowing app: Distance, Pace, Power, and Stroke Distance."

Has anyone successfully connected their 945 to a Concept2 PM5 monitor? Are there directions anywhere or can someone please explain the steps?

I attempted to do this last night (admittedly I didn't try that hard) but wasn't successful.

This is a great firmware update and I'm really looking forward to not having to use that silly Concept2 app. But a little guidance as to how to do this would be great if anyone has experience so far!

Awesome, thank you. To be more specific, this would be a PM5 monitor on a SkiErg... just in case that matters.

So the process should be very similar for adding a bike trainer. You should be able to go into the menu, go to sensors and accessories, then go to add new, then select smart trainer. Please let me know how that goes.

I use it on two rowers on the fire station since it’s available in beta.
I went into the add sensors menu, selected all and voila, it appeared.

I got it working on a PM5 for row erg with little issue.

just like with a turbo trainer.

Garmin-Brooks - here's where I'm at...

Using the notes from this thread, I was able to to connect my watch to my PM5. No problem, that worked super smooth. And, I can see on the watch that the monitor is connected.

But, when I do an activity, none of the speed, distance, or power stats, etc. show up on my watch or in the Garmin Connect file (see screenshot below).

Note, as mentioned before, I am using a SkiErg not a RowErg. Does that matter? It's a PM5 unit, so it should be the same?

I am really looking forward to ditching the Concept2 app, so super hoping there is a way to make this work!

Any further advice would be much appreciated!

Well if you read what you quoted when you started this thread it clearly talks about rowing, not skiing.

So most probably your problem is assuming that if they add rowing support it would just work for skiing.

jmtoI mean, yeah. I suppose. However, the RowErg and SkiErg use the exact same PM5 monitor which displays all the exact same data. Both connect to watches using the same ANT FE-C protocol. Logically, there should be no reason why it wouldn't work. They are literally the same machine.

Have you debugged what the both units really send so that you can be totally sure that they are really sending identical data?

They even have different firmwares. Doesn't seem to be identical to me.

Works like a charm!

1st of all, update FW in PM5. I did it through Windows app and USB key from Concept2 site. Easy.

Then just insert Flsh USB key into PM5 monitor and answer yes for update process.

After successfull update (12-15min) just let find new sensor in your FR945.

Tap-tap, case closed, thank me later.
