Software 6.2 - Connecting 945 to Concept2 PM5 monitor

"Added support for displaying metrics from an indoor rowing machine that supports the ANT FE-C profile (e.g. Concept 2 with the PM5 module). This includes new fields for the Indoor Rowing app: Distance, Pace, Power, and Stroke Distance."

Has anyone successfully connected their 945 to a Concept2 PM5 monitor? Are there directions anywhere or can someone please explain the steps?

I attempted to do this last night (admittedly I didn't try that hard) but wasn't successful.

This is a great firmware update and I'm really looking forward to not having to use that silly Concept2 app. But a little guidance as to how to do this would be great if anyone has experience so far!

Thanks.

  • Awesome that this support got added. I have a FR945 and a C2 indoor rower with a PM5 indoor monitor so this is great (C2's software leaves a bit to be desired).

On behalf of other Garmin wearable users in my household, is this support being added to other devices as well?

  • FRx45 and Fenix6 series are supported.

    Olders models unfortunatelly... not yet?

  • Thanks.

Awesome to see this finally get ticked off.  Can't wait for next gym session now.

Has anyone noticed, if I set the PM5 to a set distance does 945 "close" the activity when the distance is complete?  And now that I type that does it also auto start the activity in sync with the PM5?  That way you  can track best times etc without worrying about start/finish and also compete in the C2 global rankings.

And....   Does this require that multiple PM5's be connected separately?  So if I have rowers in 3 locations, then each one is a new sensor?

  • You have to start bad stop the activity by yourself. The behavior you ask for was the old ANT-FE (without C) one, like the PM4 on old watches like FR60. If you use the IQ App wich is available since years for rower connection, it still works this way but with known caveats.

Each pm5 has its own ANT ID, you need add each by itself like you would with two HRMs or two powermeter from two bikes. I would recommend to rename them afterwards to separate them (not that you track your gym buddy instead of yourself)

DI’d somebody try to record a training in wich two PM5s were connected two each other for competition?

  • Works as advertised here. Only weird thing I found was simply that it's called "Trainer" when adding the sensor. My rower is sitting next to my Tacx Neo 2T which was previously unpaired with my FR945 so two items named Trainer (with different succeeding numbers) were available. Not sure on the technical feasibility but it'd be nice if the default sensor name could be "Rower" or something that wouldn't get confused with the bike trainer.

  • This is how Garmins Sensor pool works since years: You see the category (PM5 uses the Trainer protocol so it is recognized as one) and the ANT ID, wich is a unique number to separate devices. If you want the rower called rower, rename it. It’s in the Sensor settings.

  • I realize all that but thanks for the condescending response.

  • I'm having issues with this since 7.1 update.  Pace data (so presumably distance) seems to not be recorded for the first few minutes of the workout (therefore also impact recording of "distance per stroke).  It then returns.  Net result is workout distance and pace are under-recorded.  Was all working fine before software update.  Anyone else?
