Battery drain 5.20

updated to 5.20 this week and battery drain significantly higher. 30% pd with no activity, WiFi off, OHRM on and SPO2 on during sleep only.

anybody else experiencing this? Any advice?

  • After upgrade do a 15s power/light button press power cycle. It usually fixes those, it usually does not have anything to do with the specific firmware version, just the upgrade process somehow.

  • Yeah definitely do a restart after upgrading the firmware by holding down the power button for 15 seconds. I noticed massive battery drain after upgrading to 5.30 before I did the restart.

  • Can't confirm any increased battery drain with FW 5.30 (shortly relased after 5.20).

However I always start from scratch after each FW update, performing a full reset inc. user data on the watch.

Usually from my experience the worst battery hogs are:

    - badly programmed watch faces (stick with the original Garmin one for a couple of days to observe battery consumption)

    - badly programmed apps from 3rd party suppliers

    - radios: keep both, WiFi and Bluetooth off and compare battery discharge

    - PulseOx: your setting (only during sleep) should be just fine

Perform a full reset and do not install ANY watchface or app for one week to observe battery behaviour. If everything is ok, try adding one new item at a time to identify the problem.

  • Excellent advice - thank you

I'm actually getting excellent battery drain on 5.2.  Half the usage average of previous FW.
