Software Version 5.30 - Forerunner 945 - Live

Update can be downloaded through Garmin Express or Garmin Connect Mobile pending rollout.

Forerunner 945

Changes made from 5.20 to 5.30

  • Resolved an intermittent issue which could result in the delayed sending of an assistance request message.
  • Yes, with 5.30 also training is classified as unproductive. Similar training approach previously was considered productive. Also VO2max dropped, which is not true. Something with the algorithm seems to be wrong now.

  • VO2 max dropped at my watch for days. From 49 to 45. And  also unproductive message.

  • edit: I just did a 7 km very smooth and quiet recovery run (41:33 min with an average pace of 05:52 min/km and an average heart rate of 123 rpm (lactate threshold is 04:35 min/km at 161 rpm).

Before that I was completely recovered and had also done little training in the last few days. Stress level low, good and regular sleep. Result: after the run the watch shows me "recovery" as a training effect (so far so good), but then a recovery time of 16 hours with a TSS of 47... In addition, it classifies my training as "unproductive" again and my VO2Max value drops again by one point... At the same time the watch tells me contradictory things: to the "unproductive" it tells me to concentrate on recovery. For "stress", it says that my stress level is too low... It all doesn't add up!

Please check this behaviour of the new firmware. It was always one of the main advantages of the Garmin watches that you had a good training control over it, but this way it makes little sense and certainly not fun!

  • Check to see if anything has changed with regard to your HR max or zones.  maybe it went back to a default setting with the new FW.

  • thx for the idea, but I checked these things already.

Are the software updates region locked?

My device is still on version 5.0 for a month or two now. I have not received any of these recent new updates.

When I connected my device and synced with Garmin Express, it only says "You're up to date!", "Last Checked: Just Now", "Version: 5.0", etc.

  • Yes, there are APAC version and ROW as I have understood it. Asia Pacific and Rest Of the World. Garmin keeps the two tracks in parallel, sometimes with APAC ahead but most often dragging behind a bit.
