maps loading really slowly

My map used to load fairly quickly after a run when I was reviewing the stats etc, now it takes forever, and yesterday I waited over a minute and nothing ever showed up (though I was able to pull up the elevation map). The screen will come up, with the zoom/pan controls, but it will be blank. Trying it right now, and after 1.5 minutes still no route showing... though the map eventually showed up after a minute :-/

Anyone else have this problem. This is recent, since the 4.40 update (possibly one update before).

FWIW, I uploaded German maps last fall (following instructions by DC Rainmaker) before the Berlin marathon (I live in Chicago), none of that affected the speed in which maps came up. Now I'm wondering if I should uninstall the extra maps, as I wonder if that would speed up the process?

Anyone experience similar or have suggestions?

I've done all the updates, and also a reset (not factory reset)

  • How long was it for you? Are you on FW 4.41?

  • I'm on 4.40 .. I would wait for a few minutes after my run and it wouldn't show, at other times, it would also be a few minutes so that the screen would switch back to the regular watch face. Nothing like 30 minutes, there's something else going on with that. Sorry, I wish I had some suggestions.

FWIW, I just contacted Garmin support on an issue with my red external HR strap, so I'll find out how good they are.

Same here, that's why I decided to reinstall the maps in the first place

    Nothing like 30 minutes

That's the time it takes for the maps to load after I've reinstalled them and disconnected the device from the computer. I just timed the 3rd time today and turns out I underestimated - exactly 37 minutes...

  • No, nothing like that for me. Definitely see what Garmin has to say about it.

  • After 3 more tries, I did a hard reset. Still didn't work until I reinstalled the maps again twice afterwards. Amazing how much I got used to the maps not loading and the lag in the zoom levels they did load.

Now however, nothing I do will allow my phone to sync to the watch again :(

  • Just wild guess, if you unpair it, remember also to unpair it from the phone's bluetooth settings, if it's paired on phone, but not on the Connect App, I think then it works like you describe, not going to pair and work.

  • Good wild guess! I actually figured it out yesterday, probably before you had answered, but that was it. I didn't unpair by the way - I just hard reset the watch. Then in order to pair again, I needed to have "forgotten" the device on the phone itself. Thanks!
