Garmin 910xt failure after timezone update

I know this is an old watch but I cannot find the correct forum and don't understand why there isn't a location for it.

Virtually every time the timezone on my watch changes (normally DST updates) the memory gets corrupt and all subsequent activities get deleted (they are visible in the watch until you try and sync, and at that point all activities since timezone change get deleted and do not appear in the GE logs). It is very easy to reproduce and looking at my device data I can now see that this is a regular occurrence after DST changes or occasionally international travel.

For many years I have lived with tons of corrupted activities every now and again, and have not worked out the pattern until now. Now that I know the pattern and it is probably a fairly easy software fix, how can we get this old device updated? Is there a route to get hold of Garmin technicians for a quick hotfix perhaps?

As a potential fix I will try and leave the watch long enough to get a new timezone before starting an activity, but this is a bug that should be fixed and will be easy to fix!

Thanks in advance!

Hi! I have much more frustrating issues with this watch (see: https://forums.garmin.com/sports-fitness/running-multisport/f/accessories-sensors/227624/garmin-910xt ) and I've been told that Garmin doesn't offer support for this model since 2019. Maybe it's country-dependent, so try to contact Garmin support yourself and cross your fingers.

That being said, this forum is a great community and you may well be lucky enough to find someone that can help you fix this! Unfortunately, I'm not that person because I'm not that tech-savvy.

    Good luck!

  • as far as i know garmin offers some consistent discounts on refurbished items, when bringing in a defective one - so you could get a 935 at a very good price; just try with the main distributor in your country, who knows. if it would have been a 920xt, there are some parts for sale on aliexpress. anyway - it has served you well ;-) - so as sad as it sounds, it's time to let go...

  • Have you tried to reset the watch?  I would also recommend to try and keep the memory from getting too full.  I.e. delete old activities after they are uploaded.  Since you figured out the pattern, an obvious workaround would be to make sure you've downloaded all the activities before the DST change.

Yup, have tried resetting, the bug still exists - it also happens when you change timezone (e.g. travelling).

I can work around the error by making sure to fully reset the watch every time the timezone changes, but its far from an ideal solution, especially if you want to capture an activity in a different timezone - since then you would also need to carry around the USB dongle to do the sync.
