Latest _stable_ SW for update

Hi Folks,

I am looking for the latest _STABLE_ SW for FR945. I need GPS, HRM (do dropouts please), VO2max, with no excessive battery drain. Basic stuff for run/bike/swim.

4.40 seems problematic.

4.20 ?

4.10 ?

4.00 gps/battery issues

3.90 ? battery drain reported non consistently

3.30 ? some says it was good

No betas, even official releases has serious issues.

I am on 2.80 and kinda ok with that but not really supported anymore.

I am willing to do a factory reset but only 1x. I have invested way too much time on fighting buggy Garmin SW and I have just one life.

Appreciate and recommendations,

Andras

  • Ok, so this is inconsistent as I expected. For some all of these are good versions, others are fine with some of these but not all, again others exactly says the opposite. Hah.

My idea: 3.30 was used as a downgrade version with later Garmin beta versions. It seems they trusted that version.

Do we have any newer similarly "trusted" version used in betas for rollback? The answer might comes from Garmin, what they trust we shoud trust.

After all I might just update to 3.30 if 4.41 will not be a version everyone just love (what I doubt).

  • Thanks folks!

You definitely helped to understand how inconsistent is the user experience with these versions.

  • My issue with 4.40 had nothing to do with the software itself, just the upgrade implementation. First an unknown "audio" update which immediately drained the battery. Then I waited for a day or two, and it took two installations to get 4.40 installed. The second was necessary to update the GPS software.

The problem was the lack of communication. I still don't know what the audio update was for, and when 4.40 was announced the double installation process wasn't mentioned.

I don't seem to have any problems with the software. Connecting to satellites is far faster than it was when I first got the watch.

However, there does appear to be a problem with the language files if you're a non-English speaker. As an English speaker it's not something I noticed.
