Latest _stable_ SW for update

Hi Folks,

I am looking for the latest _STABLE_ SW for FR945. I need GPS, HRM (do dropouts please), VO2max, with no excessive battery drain. Basic stuff for run/bike/swim.

4.40 seems problematic.

4.20 ?

4.10 ?

4.00 gps/battery issues

3.90 ? battery drain reported non consistently

3.30 ? some says it was good

No betas, even official releases has serious issues.

I am on 2.80 and kinda ok with that but not really supported anymore.

I am willing to do a factory reset but only 1x. I have invested way too much time on fighting buggy Garmin SW and I have just one life.

Appreciate and recommendations,

Andras

  • My watch is a newer build, but I had very good luck with 3.3 (which it shipped with) and 4.2.  The others were train wrecks of varying degrees.  Battery drain was the worst with 4.0, but 3.9 and 4.4 are pretty bad too.  I am going to wait until the firmware releases slow down significantly, and then do a full reset and set it up from scratch, unless they can actually figure out the drain issue and fix it once and for all.

  • I have zero issues with 4.41. The same was with 4.40, 4.10. 4.00. 3.90 and so on.

  • Phil, you haven't seen any excessive battery consumption?  Did you have to factory reset your watch?

  • No excessive battery consumption apparent and no factory reset. Watch just carries on working.

  • Thanks for replying!  I hard reset it again today, and will charge it up tomorrow.  Hoping for the best.  xx

No problems here with 4.40 either.

  • I've no problems with 4.40. Worth bearing in mind that while some 945 owners have had serious problems with the software versions listed above, the total number of users on this forum is a very small subset of the overall 945 user base. So people who are having a solid experience are less likely to post here.

So personally I'd typically bias towards taking the latest official releases and steer clear of betas.

  • On my device all these firmware versions seem/seemed to work fine.

  • Well, I have replaced my FR935 2 times because of subpar Garmin SW development practices. I am proud and happy that I have found a SW bug what is bricked my watch and my case was the one helped Garmin to avoid many more bricks. Great. Then I just fed up, sold the FR935 and got an FR945. First issue was like in the first week. Then on 2.80 it is stabilized. Has glitches but usable. Sure after freaking factory resets.

So my 2 cents on this: there might be users / hardware revisions / SW combinations out there which are working fine, or maybe they do not realize some of the issues as they do not know what actually training load or VO2max means. Anyway, great SW can be made. It is possible. I am in the industry as well. So shame on Garmin.

Not the developers. Not the testers. The SW head should be fired.
