Virtual cycling request

Will there be a virtual cycling mode - similar to virtual run - in the future? There are some benefits in use with Zwift or other Virtual cycling platforms:

I can get rid of my separate Heart rate transmitter as the watch could transmit OHR from 945 via Bluetooth to my Apple TV.

The 945 would receive data from my Power Meter, Cadence Sensor and send it combined with HR in one Bluetooth channel to Zwift.

At the moment i ran out of Bluetooth channels on my Apple TV and have to pair some sensors with the Zwift companion app.

Anybody else interested in that?

I certainly am. I actually requested it when it was announced in the beta thread. At present my strava rides don't contain any hr info unfortunately.

It's already out of beta. It's live in the latest 4.10 update.

So my hacky way so far is to fire up Zwift in Run mode and get the watch into connecting as cadence or speed sensor in Virtual Run app and hitting start, then closing Zwift and re-open in Cycling mode, or use any other app that supports BT HRM. Also, since "broadcast during activity" is on - the watch broadcasts on Ant+ and BT at the same time.

Hey Graham, check this out. It explains the dilemma fairly well in the meantime. assuming you’ve got one of the newer garmin watches you can start the virtual run activity to broadcast heart rate, then switch activities to indoor cycle to record all your data. I checked, and once switching activities, the optical heart rate sensor doesn’t cut out of Zwift. At least on iPhone.

"I did ask Garmin whether they’ll simply enable Bluetooth Smart broadcasting in a similar manner to the existing ANT+ method (or implement a virtual cycling option), and they said it’s already in the cards. But they don’t have an exact timeframe for when such a software update might happen."

I think now it's the right moment to give us virtual cycling. And...not only broadcast, but control of the trainer too. Like edge. We have fr945, top watch for triathlon, and now triathlon is trainer & treadmill. A lot of us use Zwift, me too, but sometime I need something else. Like Garmin Italy's GIRO: gpx files to edge and than you can ride virtually the stages. In 945 we have all the hardware, what else we need? 955? ok, give us 955, we'll buy it!
