Sensor Connection Attempt while in Activity - Possible Bug

There is a difference when searching for an external sensor while in-activity vs not.

This morning I attempted to find a lost Tempe on a mountain bike trail by repeatedly attempting to connect to it when in the vicinity of where I think I lost it.  But while in a bike activity, going to menu/sensors/tempe/connect it will search for 10-15 seconds and then just timeout back to the activity.  When I do this NOT in an activity, it gives me a "couldn't connect" error, then times-out back to the sensor screen (which is preferable).

Is this by design (I wouldn't think so), and if not am I doing something wrong here?

I'm also open to suggestions on how to search for this missing Tempe device.  Unfortunately my 945 apparently IMMEDIATELY defaulted to internal temperature when the tempe came off my shoe because I can't discern any "blip" or gap in temperature recording by looking at the activity where it was lost.

  • That's great, thanks.  When you say "disable" my existing Tempe do you mean turn it off or remove it altogether?

  • Just turn it off in the sensor menu

  • Got it, thanks.  I did that.

Now when I use it I am assuming I need to have that particular datafield on-screen for the duration of my ride in order to signal/alert me when the Tempe is found?

  • No need for it to be on the active screen, as long as it is on one of the screens of your activity it works. It sounds an alarm every second for as long as the Tempe is in range. You said you have another one so you could have a little practice with that to see how it works. With the transmit frequency of a Tempe make sure you go slow enough in the area where you think you have lost it otherwise you might miss it.

  • I just tested it out and it works great.  Terrific work there.  Now time to go Tempe hunting...

  • Okay so first attempt the Great Tempe Hunt:

I mtn biked the same course where I lost the device originally.  This is double track "gravel" surface with a 2m section to a 2m "lollipop" loop on the end.  Since I was on the bike I was concerned about how fast I was passing through some of these sections so did a complete back track of the entire course to ensure any sections that I screamed downhill I would be having to climb back up slowly on the return.  This was solid in theory but in practice I never got a hit.

    A few possibilities:

    - The Tempe's battery may be weak and therefore not transmitting very far.

    - The battery could've completely failed since Saturday (unlikely)

    - Someone could've spotted it on the ground and picked it up

    - Even relatively slow biking I could've zoomed past it before it had time to be picked up.

So the next step is I am running this stretch tomorrow morning.  instead of 12mph average I will be substantially slower than that :) and hopefully will register a "hit" at some point during the run.

    More to come....

  • The app worked great Cloggy,, and I just left a review.

Unfortunately this story has an unhappy ending.  Disappointed

Saturday morning I did a plodding run through the entire area where the Tempe went missing and I never registered a hit.  I doubt the battery has died already so I'm thinking someone must've spotted it and pocketed it.  I actually recall knocking mud off my shoes post-run that day so I bet it popped off near the rear of my truck then and therefore was in a high traffic area in the parking lot to be spotted.  Ah well.

  • The fantastic Tempe Finder CIQ field triumphs again!

I lost a Tempe on a trail run a few weeks ago, I could see approximately where it lost connection based on where the temperature rose sharply to my in-watch thermometer (which always reads high due to body temp).  But this area was roughly 30-40 yards in square search area.

I returned back today with my Tempe Finder enabled and was able to pinpoint the area to a much smaller range.  Even better, by "shielding" my watch against my body was I able to get it to lose/acquire signal to further dial in my search area and soon enough I found it this way.  Kudos again Cloggy!  I've left a review and a small token of appreciation as well.
