Notes:

  • For any issues that you encounter please fill out the form included in the download and attach it to an email to [email protected]. Please note that you may not get a response to the email unless we need more information on the issue you report.
  • Although this software is believed to be reliable, it has not yet been released for production and should be used at your own risk.

Changes made from version 4.00 to 4.06:

  • Add new Virtual Run activity profile. This enables broadcast of speed and heart rate information to virtual running applications such as Zwift.
  • Add Widget Glances, a new way to view widget information. The option to enable is found in the Widgets menu.
  • Add Low Heart Rate to the Abnormal Heart Rate Alert feature.
  • Various improvements for battery performance.
  • Fix an issue that was causing loss of treadmill calibration data. For best results, perform an outdoor run before your first treadmill activity.
  • Improvements to breathworks
  • Miscellaneous bug fixes and improvements.

Installation Instructions

  1. Connect your Forerunner 945 to your computer using the USB cable.
  2. Download and unzip Forerunner945_406Beta.zip. Place the GUPDATE.GCD file in the \GARMIN folder of your device's internal storage drive.
  3. Disconnect your device from the computer, approve the update on the watch, and wait for the update to finish.
  4. If you would like to revert to the last public release software, place the GUPDATE-400.GCD file in the \GARMIN folder. Rename GUPDATE-400.GCD to GUPDATE.GCD before disconnecting your device. NOTE: If you revert to an older version of software, all of your settings will be reset to defaults.
  • It seems the watch either forgot my previous outside workouts or considers last outside run of two weeks ago as too old to count.

You need at least two outside runs in a week for "no status" to disappear, otherwise there's nothing to compare it too.

  •  thanks for info. Actually it was first time in a long while that I did not have at least two outside runs

  • When using an HRM-Tri chest strap the cadence is also forwarded to Zwift, which is great! However, the value is only half of what it should be. I hope this bug gets fixed until the final version gets released :)

  • cadence is also forwarded to Zwift, which is great! However, the value is only half of what it should be.

I wouldn't consider this a bug.  Garmin counts each step for cadence.  My Stryd counts every time my foot with sensor attached strikes the ground, which is half the Garmin count.  Zwift is doing the same.  A worthless trivia fact, the US military counts cadence every time the left foot hits the ground.  Slight smile

  • This! Deleted and brought it back Andy no joy.

Also noticed the backlights didn’t come on during an activity when I gestured

  • Interesting! If I remember correctly, the HRM-Tri cadence is also stored as “one-foot-cadence” in a Fit file and Garmin Connect doubles the value, which is the number I’m used to.

  • Point of correction - from a 38 year veteran of the US Army -  "double time" (aka running) has always been defined as 180 steps per minute (bpm). If that were only the left foot, one's pace would be 360 bpm. (Also, "quick time" which is the normal pace we march at, is 120 steps per minute.)

  • Garmin counts each step for cadence.  My Stryd counts every time my foot with sensor attached strikes the ground, which is half the Garmin count.

I don't use Zwift, but both my Garmin and Stryd report cadence in steps per minute (i.e. both feet count.)

  • I am pretty sure he is referring to a pace count used in landnav/orienteering. Also, I think you got your math backwards; only counting the left when marching would result in a 'half cadence count', or 60/90 steps per minute for quick/double time.

  • I'm being dumb! Why cannot I install this firmware? I've copied the GUPDATE.GCD file to my GARMIN folder on the 945 and unplugged. Nothing happens apart from "loading maps" ? What am I doing wrong please?! I'm hoping this may fix my extremely erratic OHR readings....
