  • Although this software is believed to be reliable, it has not yet been released for production and should be used at your own risk.

Changes made from version 4.00 to 4.06:

  • Add new Virtual Run activity profile. This enables broadcast of speed and heart rate information to virtual running applications such as Zwift.
  • Add Widget Glances, a new way to view widget information. The option to enable is found in the Widgets menu.
  • Add Low Heart Rate to the Abnormal Heart Rate Alert feature.
  • Various improvements for battery performance.
  • Fix an issue that was causing loss of treadmill calibration data. For best results, perform an outdoor run before your first treadmill activity.
  • Improvements to breathworks
  • Miscellaneous bug fixes and improvements.

Installation Instructions

  1. Connect your Forerunner 945 to your computer using the USB cable.
  2. Download and unzip Forerunner945_406Beta.zip. Place the GUPDATE.GCD file in the \GARMIN folder of your device's internal storage drive.
  3. Disconnect your device from the computer, approve the update on the watch, and wait for the update to finish.
  4. If you would like to revert to the last public release software, place the GUPDATE-400.GCD file in the \GARMIN folder. Rename GUPDATE-400.GCD to GUPDATE.GCD before disconnecting your device. NOTE: If you revert to an older version of software, all of your settings will be reset to defaults.
  • just a quick heads-up regarding battery consumption using this beta: as i've been sick during the past days -> no workouts during this time. so: fw 4.06 no pulseox, bluetooth on and connected to an android xperia xz2 compact, no music, minimal scrolling -> i'm getting a ~0.28%/h as an average during the last 3 days, and an ~6.8%/day. i'd say very good - with no other issues detected :-)

  • for some reason, I try to install this Beta and although I place the GUPDATE.GCD in the \Garmin is not detecting it

can you help me ?? my device is APAC got something to do with it?

    Former Member

  • APAC devices run separate versions as much as I can tell.

  • Its clear that the APAC device scum is garbage...  I dont get why Former Member is taking this strategy on the device region ... non sense

  • Blame Garmin, not an employee of Garmin.

  • You are right ... my apologies to Former Member ...
I hope to get a solution... but I'm getting more and more frustrated with this device.

  • I understand your frustration, but as far as I know, this is has been case with APAC devices for a very long time... you can't use beta from non-APAC devices (aka "ROW"), and you have a different update schedule.

  • Yes ... I'm stuck in 3.30 .. they (Garmin) offer a replacement but the problem is that this takes 3-4 weeks and now I'm out from the US, so then I cannot do it...
what I do not get is why if the devices are 100% same in hardware (as they state), what's the reason of this roadmap differences and why it cannot be fixed with an FW...

Anyway, Up to now, I was much happier with my previous 935 than this one.

  • what I do not get is why if the devices are 100% same in hardware (as they state), what's the reason of this roadmap differences and why it cannot be fixed with an FW...

I'm not so sure the hardware is 100% the same, but let's just say it is.  It's the software that's different that runs the ROW and APAC versions.  Garmin has always released betas for the ROW versions and FW updates for the ROW versions before the APAC watches.  I'm speculating, but I believe this to be the case based on sales of each device type.

  • I just went for an outside run, first since this release. Currently my Training Status shows "No Status" (Ftiness --, Load \/).

It seems the watch either forgot my previous outside workouts or considers last outside run of two weeks ago as too old to count.

Am I right that indoor cycling or runs are not included in Training Status?
