Notes:

  • For any issues that you encounter please fill out the form included in the download and attach it to an email to [email protected]. Please note that you may not get a response to the email unless we need more information on the issue you report.
  • Although this software is believed to be reliable, it has not yet been released for production and should be used at your own risk.

Changes made from version 4.00 to 4.06:

  • Add new Virtual Run activity profile. This enables broadcast of speed and heart rate information to virtual running applications such as Zwift.
  • Add Widget Glances, a new way to view widget information. The option to enable is found in the Widgets menu.
  • Add Low Heart Rate to the Abnormal Heart Rate Alert feature.
  • Various improvements for battery performance.
  • Fix an issue that was causing loss of treadmill calibration data. For best results, perform an outdoor run before your first treadmill activity.
  • Improvements to breathworks
  • Miscellaneous bug fixes and improvements.

Installation Instructions

  1. Connect your Forerunner 945 to your computer using the USB cable.
  2. Download and unzip Forerunner945_406Beta.zip. Place the GUPDATE.GCD file in the \GARMIN folder of your device's internal storage drive.
  3. Disconnect your device from the computer, approve the update on the watch, and wait for the update to finish.
  4. If you would like to revert to the last public release software, place the GUPDATE-400.GCD file in the \GARMIN folder. Rename GUPDATE-400.GCD to GUPDATE.GCD before disconnecting your device. NOTE: If you revert to an older version of software, all of your settings will be reset to defaults.
  • Wait. What did I say? ;-)

Lactate Threshold detection is running specific and should not have anything to do with cycling.

Functional Threshold Power detection is cycling specific and should not have anything to do with running.

Behind the scenes the analysis is essentially the same... with the difference being that running speed is used as the measure of external workload for running and watts from your power meter are used as the measure of external workload during cycling.

thanks for your fast answer, it's clear with LT and FTP but Garmin offers for running and cycling 2 different HR-Profiles and you can setup both profiles with Lactate Threshold HR for Zone calculation, so far so good.

But when your LT HR changed because Garmin have a autodetect function, then normaly both HR Profiles have to be updated, or?

it seems this Autodetect of LTHR only works for running, the Autodetect for cycling don't or better never worked, only FTP autodetect, that means the LTHR of running HR Profile have to be synced to cycling HR profile?

A FTP test only update your Power Zones but never your HR-Zones!

  • Thanks a lot! I like the new features...

  • Any update on the battery life with this beta,

  • Battery seems to be good but erratic. In smartwatch mode (HR on, PulseOX off, Phone notifications off, Bluetooth on, no 3rd-Party Watch Faces or App, Garmin Watch Face with seconds) I get anywhere from 0.5% to 0.15% / h and I don't understand why it fluctuates so much without me doing anything more or less. In GPS mode (HR External Strap Polar H10, 6-field Data Screen, GPS+Glonass) the same: it goes from 1.5 to 10% / h. Again a lot of difference!

Battery life has never been a real problem for me (my watch always lasts at least a week with 4/5h of GPS Workouts). It seems better with this beta but still not what Garmin advertises.

    A.

  • But I don´t prefer widget glances, so please keep the possibility to torn off widger glances ;)

you can simply disable it, press the left middle button, go to widget menue and disable widget glances, i have done the same because i am wearing eyeglasses and without it's impossible to read anything with widget glances, hope, one day, the watches getting better screens :-)

  • just got a brandnew 945 as replacement from garmin today. it was on FW 2.80, so i updated via garmin express first to 4.00 and then also installed this beta 4.06

now my watch keeps rebooting every ~5mins.

i reverted back to 4.00 now and hope it's gone then - otherwise i've to send it back to garmin AGAIN. (i already have my 3rd 945 since June :-( )

  • Hi, I tried to add a glance view to my widget "battery info". For any reason the glance view isn't shown, but instead the name of the widget is printed. This is strange since I also added a very simple glance view to another of my widgets and here it works perfectly. Regardless what I am trying I can't make the widget to show my implementation although I am pretty sure it is coded correctly. Aurelie did see the glance view on her watch but after I asked her to send me a picture the glance view is also gone on her watch.

Could anyone, who hasn't installed my "Battery Info"widget yet, install it on the FR945 and report back whether the glance view is shown?

  • I have installed it and see just this.

  • Is anyone else experiencing while in workout mode, after some time screen automatically changes to the main workout screen.

When trying to change to workout screen chages it back some time later to a main workout screen. Is there a chance to turn it off? Autoscroll is disabled

  • Enabled expert mode and now I see this.
