Download

Notes:

  • For any issues that you encounter please fill out the form included in the download and attach it to an email to [email protected]. Please note that you may not get a response to the email unless we need more information on the issue you report.
  • Although this software is believed to be reliable, it has not yet been released for production and should be used at your own risk.

Changes made from version 4.00 to 4.06:

  • Add new Virtual Run activity profile. This enables broadcast of speed and heart rate information to virtual running applications such as Zwift.
  • Add Widget Glances, a new way to view widget information. The option to enable is found in the Widgets menu.
  • Add Low Heart Rate to the Abnormal Heart Rate Alert feature.
  • Various improvements for battery performance.
  • Fix an issue that was causing loss of treadmill calibration data. For best results, perform an outdoor run before your first treadmill activity.
  • Improvements to breathworks
  • Miscellaneous bug fixes and improvements.

Installation Instructions

  1. Connect your Forerunner 945 to your computer using the USB cable.
  2. Download and unzip Forerunner945_406Beta.zip. Place the GUPDATE.GCD file in the \GARMIN folder of your device's internal storage drive.
  3. Disconnect your device from the computer, approve the update on the watch, and wait for the update to finish.
  4. If you would like to revert to the last public release software, place the GUPDATE-400.GCD file in the \GARMIN folder. Rename GUPDATE-400.GCD to GUPDATE.GCD before disconnecting your device. NOTE: If you revert to an older version of software, all of your settings will be reset to defaults.
  • If your Resting heart rate is close to 40, the distance to a critical low HR is not far enough. Im training not enough these days, but maintain 49 as an average without problems. Yesterday was a lazy day where I took a lot of naps because I was on 24h duty on the firestation the day before, so I got down to 42 as an average. There is not much left to 40.

  • Weather widget doesn't work. otherwise everything looks cool.

  • Really? Works fine for me.

  • Just a friendly point here to all the people posting their battery usage. It doesn't help us (users) or Garmin if you state X/Y/Z without at least explaining what you have enabled/not enabled while getting these results. Do you always run the watch this way? Also, are you using any CIQ items, including watch faces? Have you changed anything after installing this beta?

Coming here and stating the discharge is  0.22%/hr (independent example) after the beta with nary, any context means nothing. Was it higher before? Is it higher now? Explain, and probably send info to the team, so they know.

    Context, lead with more context.

  • The post clearly states to send an email to engage with Garmin in case of issues. So, that’s the way to provide context and more details. Wink

People posting here are just sharing positive feedbacks (to other users rather than to Garmin).

    Cheers

  • To be honest after one day usage battery life is worse for me. My average consumption is 0.912%/h. OK  I had half an hour biking and another hour running with music on. Furthermore spo2 was on over night  But I hadn't this high consumption with 4.0.0. 3.2 was best for me. My watch face Blink shows 180 minutes in high power mode. With 4.0.0 I got 100 to 120 minutes average and with 3.2 far below 100 minutes. Did a hard reset in the evening but things are not better

  • Your feedback will be taken into consideration as we continue to develop this feature, but I cannot promise a change.

This was designed to work for as many customers as possible while delivering the greatest accuracy that we can. I apologize that our current settings do not work for you and the frustration this causes.

  • Athletes tend to have a resting heart rate that would generally be diagnosed as bradycardia which, in the normal adult population is deemed to below 60 bpm. So by default if you have a resting heart rate below 60 you could be classed as having an abnormally low HRrest. Garmin have recognised that athletes tend to have lower HRrest by setting a low threshold of 40.

Anybody below 40 would very likely represent an even smaller percentage of the population - I seem to recall Miguel Induarain reportedly had a HRrest of 27.

"Abnormal" low HR must be able to be set lower than 40 bpm

is to me anyway, a bit of an over-the-top response but sadly typical of many that we see here.

In your case it would be useful to be able to set it below 25 to allow for some lee way but, given the inherent inaccuracies associated with WHR, I suspect you would end up with more false alarms than you would like.

  • My average HR is 37 and I believe lots of others too... A bit disappointed that something made for fit (or trying to get for) persons did not take this in consideration...

  • Garmin Thx for this update.

But I don´t prefer widget glances, so please keep the possibility to torn off widger glances ;)
