Open water Swim FR945 Settings

My FR945 consistently measures swims to be too long.

What are the optimized settings for OWS for the FR945?

Is there a detailed link specifically for the FR945 referencing FR945 settings?

The tracking remains marginal, with many 'jumps' where signals are missed.

I'm running Software 4.0, GPS 2.6.

  • My FR945 dont correct tracker the Open water Swim activity. This tracker 2.240mt in swim. But I back to the started location in sand,  and in walking activity the FR945 tracker 1010mt.

Beyond the drawing showed must diferent of realy traveled.

My FR is a 945 and software is 4.0.

  • Hi, in contact with Garmin Support, They are tell me the information this is an software calcul problem. A software release are live on August 2020.

    God bless !

  • For Swim2 the correction is released, I do not know if for FR945 the newest beta has it. First impressions are that it works!

  • Mines the same. Swam last week with 3 others. They all measured within 100m of 1550m. Mine measured it as 2500m. I measured it online and it was 1500m. I swam yesterday and again it came out at 2550m

  • Same issue with the Fenix 6.

Anyone having issues following recent firmware update? Prior, most swims seemed spot on. Since last week, friday swim - No gps signal, today's swim 1100 yrds over a 1600 yrd course, plus map in Garmin connect shows me swimming to the equator!

I'm disappointed with the V5.0 on my FR945 for measurement accuracy.

Yesterday, I swam a straight line open water swim which measured 1600 yards SHORTER than the actual. As shown in the attached photo, the 945 measured 3900 yards for a 5500-yard swim (as measured with Google Maps). I have a few swims with the distance measurement being closer to reality.

V5.0 is a definite improvement, but it seems to have additional room for improvement and doesn't match the Apple Watch for OWS. I do not have any issues with acquiring signals. Another friend who swims with the 945 has also seen improvement as well.

  • How is it is possible to swim from the centre of the Golden Gate Bridge to Alcatraz?

    Is this for real?

Yes, absolutely for real. It's an awesome swim, and with a swift current is a relatively fast swim. Our intention was to swim between the Golden Gate Bridge and the Bay Bridge (10K) with a stopover at Alcatraz. Due to the wildfires in the San Francisco Bay Area, the air quality prevented us from continuing.

We jumped off a boat at the Golden Gate Bridge and swam to Alcatraz. We took the same boat back to shore. We hired the boat as a safety escort vehicle. Safety and common sense mandates swimmers have powerboat escorts when swimming in the open bay. There's just too much shipping traffic (tankers, freighters, fishing boats, recreational boats, etc.) to go rogue. A
