HRV Logging - When?

Under "Physiological metrics" I have "Log HRV" set to on.  However I have no idea when or on what schedule such logging occurs.  I don't see any data in Garmin Connect around HRV but my 3rd party software, to which I push all Garmin Connect data available shows a record of HRV from my 945.

the problem is, as shown below I can't figure out when it's doing this recording.  Sometimes it's at a specific time, but mostly it's just shown as a date recording.  Anyone know anything about this?

  • Wanted to circle back on this thread with an update and some new insight.

First, on the Sporttracks front, one of the issues "sleuthing" their numbers is there was an issue with their time conversion, they had timezones off (by I think 6 hours) which, once corrected, made the HRV recordings coincide with the end time of my workouts with the 945.  So essentially, the 945 is making an HRV reading at the end of a workout, but that data is not being recorded anywhere for viewing in Garmin Connect but IS available to 3rd parties like Sporttracks.  That explains the sporttracks entries in my original post above that showed an actual date AND time.  The ones with date only, I am still trying to deduce when my 945 is grabbing that reading.

But the new insight is that I am seeing HRV readings for both running and other activities.  I typically cross train with cycling and interestingly the HRV readings post-cycle workouts are almost always much higher than those for running.  This is very consistently shown in my numbers.  Is it a known thing in this area with running versus cycling?

Here are some recent examples.  The circled readings are post cycling:

This number is not very useful anyway, HRV is more than just a single number (and yes, a different number of every training is normal). If you want to do something serious: the time difference in ms between every heart beat during an activity is written into the activities .fit file. It can be extracted from there with Garmins free ANT tools (https://www.thisisant.com/developer/resources/downloads/)(FIT SDK) to csv and imported into i.e. Kubios HRV where you get all the HRV stats. I don't think Garmin is logging HRV, it's calculated from the time differences.
