SW 4.00: 50% more Battery drain

again the Battery drain in this Firmware is very high, as i have done this note by Former Member nothing changed:

Note: We understand that there are users who have reported decreased battery life since the 3.90 update. There is nothing in 4.00 that addresses this and we would first ask that anyone seeing this symptom perform a hard reset by holding the power button down until the device turns off before charging to 100% again. If this is not successful then you are experiencing an issue that we are actively investigating.

In 24 hours you will lost ~15%, but when you disable the Phone Connection on the watch himself like this:

the battery drain in 24 hours is only 7%

for me it's clear that more or less

Sensor Hub 3.20 or

ANT/BLE/BT 5.01

causes this issue!

Former Member  Please take a look with your Team on it, or better, gives us a Tool for Power Management like on Fenix 6!

EDITH:

could it be, that only watches affected, where Android 10 phones used?

is there someone who have probs with iOS or Android 9?

EDITH2:

confirmed drain on Android 9 and 10

any1 can confirm on iOS?

EDITH3:

confirmed drain on Android 9 and 10 and on latest iOS!

  • Former Member I have been following these threads and just not bitten the bullet to update to 3.90 or 4.00 yet. Still on 3.30.

The new added features dont add up enough for me to lose out on battery life.

  • Those of you who are running 4.00, have you noticed battery drain returning to normal eventually, or is it still higher after several days of use?

  • My battery life is amazing since v. 4.00. 8 days between the last time I charged and charging this morning - including four +40 minute runs and three +50 minute strength sessions (Android 9.0, Samsung Note 9, no non-Garmin widgets or watch faces)

  • With no activity around 0.8% per hour with activities 1-2% per hour.

Didn't changed since 4.0 is out. Need to charge 2-3 times a week currently. 5 running sessions with about 4-6 hours total.

  • Those of you who are running 4.00, have you noticed battery drain returning to normal eventually, or is it still higher after several days of use?

Why should it be better now?
    Did Garmin change anything?
    If so, what?

For me there is no change, same after several day of use and of course, more an more things don't work on 4.00, here is my short list:

    - Race Predictor
    v02max calculation
abnormal Heartbeat Alarms and no Intensity minutes during indoor cycling, when using Edge 830 and only wearing watch
    - again missing breathing widget in latest Garmin Connect Android released on 31.12.19 (we have to wait again one month for a new GCM Android now?)
    battery drain 50% more

So please let us know, how that can be fixed, when nobody of Garmin is working with us together and is looking on some log files of the watch or in our connect account?

    anyway, a happy new year!

  • It is still high after several days and several charges.

  • For me update from SW 3.90 to 4.00 didn't change anything in battery drain. It is still higher then before 3.90.

  • I noticed a slight improvement after installing 4.00 but that could just be the fewer activities I recorded lately. But I am a bit perplexed with your question since the announcement said there was nothing in the 4.00 update that would address the 3.90 battery issue.

  • Hi!
Yesterday I did 2-hour run. It was cold - about 0°C (32°F). I started with 40% battery level and after saving the activity battery level was only 20% (live track on, GPS+Glonass, last 30 minutes with navi). What is really strange - battery level after coming back to home. In a normal temperature - 22°C (72°F) battery indicator started to show me higher and higher level. After few hours - 20% -> 30%.
Is that normal? I thought, Garmin can calibrate the battery level indicator to temperature. What is your experience in this matter?

  • I think what he was saying is that there was no change, but hoping that a few cycles of soft-resets and fully charging will bring the battery back to normal.

Not for me.  I was *finally* pleased with battery life on the previous FW and now I'm back to being displeased.
