Forerunner 945 Series SW 4.00 is now live

This update can be downloaded with Garmin Express or automatically through Garmin Connect Mobile.

Change Log

  • Fixed an issue with ephemeris downloads over BLE which could cause units to experience slow GPS fix times.

Note: We understand that there are users who have reported decreased battery life since the 3.90 update. There is nothing in 4.00 that addresses this and we would first ask that anyone seeing this symptom perform a hard reset by holding the power button down until the device turns off before charging to 100% again. If this is not successful then you are experiencing an issue that we are actively investigating.

  • I never had the battery drain issue to begin with.

    - Revision D garmin 945 purchased 2 months ago from Greece

GPS issue (fixed reception after 15mins or more) though was fixed for me. Yesterday's run found immediate GPS with GPS + Gallileo.

Instant running pace issues persist. I think it what happens is that it shows a slow(er) running pace and then it compensates for the distance covered by increasing the running pace a lot

  • hello - for me it actually fluctuates - i had a 0.6%/h right after the update, stood around 0.6/h a few days, now it settled at 0.45/h. the best was at 0.3x/h, before 4.0. the question is what do you understand under 'normal' consumption in these conditions: bluetooth and phone connection on, pulseox off, minimal backlight and clicks during the day, garmin stock watchface.

  • My timer (the white timer page) also was sooo slow to react and very laggy (like 6-7 seconds on every button press).

A hard reset (left top button for 15+ sec) solved this problem at least.

  • I have the same thing happen, but it now being my 3rd 945; it has happened to every version of the watch I've owned. Not only does it ramp up the amount of discharge, but CIQ apps that report battery are reporting incorrect daily discharge. It's not just one CIQ--all of them are reporting it wrong.

I'm getting a 0.743%/hr discharge rate, which amounts to approximately 18% discharge per day. Every battery app I have used reports back approx 5.5% per day. It's saying one thing and doing something completely different.

It's almost as if the watch actively ramps up power loss over time, rather than managing loss. That's either a conscious choice or a defective line of batteries that suffer from poor cell power retention. They'll never confirm either thing but after over a half a year of people shouting there's a problem, it's a safe bet to think there's a problem with this line.

  • Garmin-Blake, my watch shows 100 % more minutes per day in high power mode than with 3.30. Is the watch more sensible on wrist turns causes more power drain? This together with Bluetooth (my watch drains more than 100 % during an activity with streaming music rather than without streaming. If I would compare this to my smartphone: listening to music doesn't drain that amount during GPS on than without listening to music)

  • I downgraded but the result doesn't change. Nothing works in my 945. Can anyone help me?

  • How do you guys measure battery usage statistics? I don't have a battery drain issue but I'd like to contribute with my stats as well

  • you forgot to downgrade the RemoteSW

  • No, I followed the step-by-step guide. Or so I think. Why do you think so?

  • My wife and I both bought brand new 945s the week of Thanksgiving, and have been using the tar out of them.  Both of us updated to 3.9/4.0 on release, and neither of us have seen abnormal battery drain at all.  HOWEVER, we don't use special CIQ anything.  I have a couple apps installed, but nothing I use regularly (and haven't used since updating).  They're both factory fresh rev Ds.

I do remember a very old issue with the Forerunner 235 where if you had ever installed a certain version of the firmware, once you updated you HAD to do a factory reset, else you would get insane battery drain.  Just an idea, in case nobody's tried that yet.
