Openwater Swim issues resolved?

FAO Garmin-Blake really I suppose.

Can you confirm whether the latest firmware releases have solved the Openwater swim tracking issues that were raised earlier this year? I've searched the forum and I can't find positive confirmation that Garmin have identified the issue and that it's resolved. I've noted the review DCR recently did of the Garmin Swim 2, which I assume shares hardware, so I'm hopeful that this issue is now fixed?

Thanks, but an 'improvement' isn't acknowledging that the issue is:

a) Identified correctly

b) Fixed

That's why I hoping that Garmin-Blake (or another Garmin representative) can confirm that the issues that were reported are now in the past

Hi, I don't know if it is officially confirmed or not but since that update, (2.50), all my open water activities have been recorded perfectly without any issue.

All the Garmin folk will/can tell you is that the GPS has been updated to resolve reported issues. The people who will tell you if it's fixed or not are those who are swimming. And I'm sure, we'll hear from them soon enough if it isn't. Sadly, we rarely get to hear from people telling us things are working.

When the issues first surfaced, Garmin were quick(ish) to acknowledge the issue and Garmin-Blake promised to keep us updated IIRC. 2.5 was delivered reasonably quickly but an 'improvement' isn't a fix. An 'improvement' suggests that Garmin don't actually know what the issue is (or can't resolve it via firmware alone). Their silence is telling IMO

I bought the watch the day they were released and had OWS issues straightaway. I've only done 2 OWS with 2.5 and have a 50% success rate with that, so I'm not at all convinced that the issue is resolved. As people in the southern hemisphere will be OWS as opposed to Europe, I suppose I'm trying to gauge whether to return the watch as by the time I'm OWS again next year, my watch will be out of warranty. Running and cycling are OK (heart rate sensor is variable but I knew that before I bought it), but I'm not confident that the watch will record, which kinda defeats the whole point of having it
