My 945 has frozen a few times during runs

on a few occasions my 945 has frozen and can only be revived with a reset by holding the on/off button for 15 seconds.

when it starts up and i select to do a run, once it resumed with nothing lost, another time it lost all data for the run, and another time it resumed, but recording nothing else on the gps track but did record total distance and time

on my run i use extra data fields: Dozen Run, and Rolling Average Pace

has anyone had this issue? is it a known bug? is there a solution i can do, or one coming?

  • sorry everyone, but i removed all the CIQ watch faces, and it still happened. was doing a long run, paused a few times to take photos, and on the last one as i was about to resume running i went to check my current elevation, and the watch had frozen. i did the 15sec restart, and the run all seemed to be there, so i saved and ended the run. back at home i noticed all the gps recording was there, heart rate etc, but it did not update training effect/exercise load (shows zero for a 19km run)

so this is starting to be a pattern - i have noticed that the issue occurs after an auto-pause

i have some CIQ custom datafields installed - on this run it was DozenRun (accumulating running dynamics info) and Rolling Pace (10 second average pace setting) - these recorded perfectly

are we going to suggest i uninstall these too?

  • also fyi this is a Rev A watch running ver 2.80

what is different about Rev B,C,D watches?

  • not installing third party CIQ watch faces because they are known to cause problems

This is factually incorrect. Connect Iq watch face run within a virtual machine and can't influence exterior systems.

    Even Garmin recommends

I've seen conversations like this happening too, I hope that they train Garmin Support people so that they no longer do this.

Do you have any error log files on the device? Places to look are in the root of the device, in the garmin folder, in the debug folder, in the garmin/debug folder or in the garmin/apps/logs folder. File names can be error_log.txt, err_log.txt, ciq_log.txt or ciq_log.yml

  • If this happens often again after a factory reset, it could be a hardware problem.
For months I have not seen something like that.

  • Never happened again following a reset I did.

  • Hi just saw your responses, thanks! ... Will have a look for such files over this weekend

It doesn't even seem to require that your current watch face is CIQ.  I've seen it just having a CIQ watch face on the device even when a native WF is set as my current one.
    lindajm22 is almost certainly correct

The reality is that CIQ 'stuff'' does cause problems.

Deleting watch faces and data fields is the first step to troubleshooting issues, It is as says, not a long-term solution bit if it helps identify the problem, it's a step in the right direction.

So yes, , take those datafields off and the watch faces, then see if the problem persists. If it doesn't, add the stuff back one step at a time until you identify the culprit. Then contact the developer.

  • My first use out of the box and it froze up mid swim.  No CIQ watch faces, etc.  Brand new.  This does not make me feel good about this (very expensive) purchase.

  • Mine froze right out of the box also. I cannot get it to hard reset

  • Pressing and holding the power button for 20 seconds won't get it to restart?
