As Jim says, the sensor is not just reporting HR. I'm sure the HR you are recording is coming from the strap. But it may also be doing PulseOx that wouldn't be coming from the strap.
I’ve experienced what I think is noise from the OHR while using the Garmin Chest strap that I think skews my HR numbers. The problem is resolved when I turn off the OHR. The problem I now have is that you can only turn off the OHR globally so now I can’t use OHR during non-activity which is when I find it to be useful. Garmin, PLEASE make it so that I can toggle OHR on and off by activity type.
