Torn between 945 and Fenix 6 (upgrading from 735xt)

I asked this same question in the Fenix 6 area but wanted both sides

Here we go...

I'm looking to upgrade from my trusty 735xt.  90% of my activity is running based.

The 945 was a shoe-in as the natural choice, but now that the Fenix 6 is out, I'm a bit conflicted.

For the Pro Fenix 6, I love how the screen takes up more of the real estate of the watch (i.e. smaller bezel).  That and how it generally looks a little bit classier (although I'm not hung up about this particularly).

However, the increased weight is my only concern.  Are there any mostly runners here that have switched to the Fenix from a Forerunner?  How did you find the increased weight, both in running and day to day wear?

And, of course, those who switched from the Fenix to the 945....

Thanks!

  • This is true but price compared, they’re within a 100 of one another so the FR is really on the $$$ side as well. I originally was just going to go with the 735 bc it’s cheap but still and decent tri watching from what I read but then saw the 935 was out. But then saw 945 was out and Garmin now supports Amazon Music which is what I use. Will I used watch based music? I don’t really know but I like the option to but I liked the newer heard rate monitor in the 945 (I normally wear a chest strap) so probably doesn’t matter I guess. And the better battery. But then I saw the Fenix had an even better battery and did wrist based heart rate while swimming. Which I won’t wear a trap while swimming.

Kinda now just wanna go back to a 735 and forget it all. I wear an Apple Watch 4 but it’s always off on my runs and m training is suffering so I was getting back on the Garmin train but forgot how man options they’re are!

  • also the Fenix showing the 6 data screens was big imo. Apparently the 3mm bigger display allows that.

  • Several of the functions from Fenix 6 have been introduced in 945 as well, such as the wrist based heart rate measures during swimming.

  • Well fudge. Looks like they need to update their product pages bc I’ve spent hours comparing the two and watching review videos trying government decide and now everyone is making it hard again lol and I’m bring an old forum back which ppl hate but there’s not a lot of direct comparisons to look at!

  • I've been watching this thread closely. I'm upgrading from an instinct to either a 945 or 6 Pro. I love the look of the Fenix 6 and the bigger screen size is a huge reason why I want it.... But I am mainly a runner and mountain biker and like the lighter weight of the 945. Its good to see the Fenix 6 features making their way into the 945.. but this just makes the choice even harder.

  • I just picked up the 945 mainly bc the 100 ill save ill put into a chest strap and everyone has been talking about the weight. I wear a apple watch and would think its pretty close to F6 probably. Time will tell though.

  • I had side by side F6x, F6 and 945 just to compare the screen sizes. I found no benefits of X % bigger screen on F6 series. It shows the same amount of information as 945 (unless you want 8 field on a single screen). Font on 945 is big enough already.

Also Map area visible on a screen the same on 945 and F6...

  • 945 has also 6 data fields since 3.08Beta

  • Have you had any issues with this beta?

  • I generally prefer the Forerunners over the Fenix series mainly due to the weight and causing my HR to not register properly. Have not tested the F6 yet, so cannot confirm the same issue would happen.
