Two Sapphire Fenix 6 Pro’s, backlight / contrast issues

I bought two fenix 6’s today, both are the Carbon grey DLC coated with sapphire glass.

Have a look at these photos, my wife's is on the left hand side and mine the right. Her looks very yellow compared to mine which looks far crisper and sharper. Both have backlight set to 50%.

Any thoughts on if there’s a setting other than backlight that could cause this before I go back to the shop where I bought them?

  • But I have to admit, that the darker display needs more light than the lighter bluish display. Even in daylight, the black display shimmers bluish, while the bluish display stays dark during the day. ;)  Both have the same contrast at sunlight.

However, the color contrast and viewing angle of the dark display  is a bit better at night.

    • Thanks so much for this picture! The second picture, the left watch is with the black Display in the night and the right one with the blue screen @night? Thanks! When this is right, i dont send my Fenix 6 x Pro to Garmin for an replacement. I like the nice contrast on the right watch!

Hi! Th displays are both blue (blue = not as black as some of the watches here, but have not seen a 6S Sapphire with this nice backlight yet)

But the contrast of the exchanged new one (with the green/yellow strap) is much better than my previous model.

Hallo! Seems like I am not the only one: last weekend I took a glance at the first other F6x Pro in a Saturn (electronic retailer) and it looked extremely different to mine. My display has this cheap looking blueish light and is barely readable when looking from an angle. I contacted Garmin and asked if this a known issue. Here is the reply:

    "vielen Dank für Ihre Anfrage.

Einige Unterschiede in der Bildschirmdarstellung sind normal, wenn man Uhren nebeneinander vergleicht. Auch wenn es eine gewisse Variabilität von Uhr zu Uhr gibt, erfüllen sie alle unsere Designstandards"

    --> thanks for your request.

Some differences concerning the appearance of the display are normal when comparing watches one to another. There might be a certain variability from watch to watch but all of them fulfill our standards of design. <--

Any hints how to deal with it?

    Regards

    Danny

  • this is a bad display - it even inverts the colors when viewing on it at an angle. it is really poor of garmin stating that this is within the design standard.

think of something different to get it exchanged... perhaps the bad and still not working WHR!?

  • Hi, do you also have a column with the model?

Because I never saw a 6S with deep black display... and somebody else wrote the same:

have not seen a 6S Sapphire with this nice backlight yet

tHaiFun is it your replacement Sapphire? Because seems that one is reflecting more than the other one and usually Sapphire reflect more than the normal one.

No column available for model. The SN is connected to the models though. So you can check the start of the SN on some previous post to find what to look for.

  • Hi, I found this thread very helpful, and wanted to say thanks to those involved. After I contacted Garmin (UK) about the difficulty in seeing the screen at night and at angles, I originally just wanted to know if there was a setting to alter the contrast. They asked for photos and I sent in the pics I added below. They immediately decided that the watch needed replacing and sent me a brand new device after I returned mine. That's when I stumbled upon this thread. I heard that they were excellent to deal with for service issues and my experience has been excellent. As you can see from below there was definitely a sub assembly display issue. The original watch was 63400XX and was not easy to view. The replacement is 6342XXX and is clearer to view, both in the day and in low light with backlight on. Also interesting is the addition of Firstbeat text on the bottom of the box, which may help people decide in stores. Looks like the higher the number the better the likelihood of getting the chroma display. I hope my contribution helps other people dissatisfied with their purchase.

Thanks for sharing, very glad that I returned my 6X, mine was the same way.

How people can be ok with their product in this state bewilders me, to me it is not just the washed out blue colour, more importantly it was the viewing angle as it was horrible, just like yours.

Again, thanks for sharing, Garmin refunded me and now I am waiting to purchase Tactix Delta.
