Two Sapphire Fenix 6 Pro’s, backlight / contrast issues

I bought two fenix 6’s today, both are the Carbon grey DLC coated with sapphire glass.

Have a look at these photos, my wife's is on the left hand side and mine the right. Her looks very yellow compared to mine which looks far crisper and sharper. Both have backlight set to 50%.

Any thoughts on if there’s a setting other than backlight that could cause this before I go back to the shop where I bought them?

  • I understand where you are coming from, from personal experience though, the one I have now I can read a lot better in darker conditions when not looking at it directly, so I feel teh viewing angle on 'bleuer' displays is different.

YMMV though. :)and yes, all happy holidays in these already strange times...

I consider all the blue screens to be bad for one main reason. Every one of them are washed out when viewed in the dark at an angle, which makes viewing at night difficult. The black screen ones do not do that.

Here is an example of a blue screen one that I returned.

  • Good point, but I think your premise is flawed

I add another premise. I work for a manufacturer that produce professional displays, with a technical role.

So, consider that I see displays every day and every month and I know very well differences from different display technologies.

The point I was trying to make, with some perhaps not so funny comedy, is that after a year we are no closer to "knowing" exactly what you want to know - which models are "good", which models are "bad", and which models are maybe "good" but also maybe "bad".

I agree with you in general but not about 6S. I was asking about Fenix 6S because, some months ago, nobody found a 6S with the "best" screen and I would like to know if now there are some news about it.

I agree about report from people that have had only one Fenix 6 series device. People that bought more units and finally found a version with the best screen for me are reliable.

    1. There is a prevalent perception that some displays extant in the fenix 6 series (all models) of watches that some exhibit a "blue" display which has been categorized as "bad" while others exhibit a "black" display which has been deemed "good"

It is a fact, not a perception. I have one 6 Pro Titanium Sapphire that is perfect and one 6S with a very bad display compared with the other one.

    2. Whichever way one perceives any particular watch, the core performance and functionality is not affected - both "good" and "bad" examples perform equally well

Yes sure, only display is different so the only issue is about angle view. This is a problem only in some sports where it is difficult move wrist to read better. Anyway, I kept my 6S because it is usable in 90% of the situations.

    3. It is not possible to draw any correlation between serial numbers and perceived display status.  Reported serial number info is often contradictory (one reports a given serial number range as "bad" while another reports the same serial number range as "good") or too vague to be of any use ("early model" as opposed to "later model" or "new")

    4. The only way for anyone to determine if a watch they wish to purchase will be "good" or "bad" as far as their perceived criterion is concerned is to view the watch in person - and even then, preferably compared directly to another known (to that individual) as "good" or "bad"

Unfortunately I agree. But as I wrote above all 6S in the past had the worst display so I am interested if there are some news and seems that something changed so I will contact Garmin again.

And as far as what my "...right to say that we are speaking about nothing" is concerned - hey, it's the internet; I have the right to post my comments just as much as anyone else.  Sorry if you somehow took offense to my post, but it is my opinion.

Yes sure, I underlined that say people that are speaking about nothing is not polite.

And, to be honest, personally I do not like (in forums as in real life) people that say that something that some people is trying to doing is wrong or impossible. This because most of times these people finally reached their goal but lost a lot of time because people continuously said them that was not possible.

Also in the story there are a lot of similar examples.

    Happy Holidays!

Happy Holidays also to you Slight smile !!!

And yet, here's my blue screen with great visibility when viewed at an angle Thinking

Kinda makes one wonder, don't it?

That top photo looks like a black screen. Can you post a straight on shot of that screen? If that is a blus screen, it's the first one I've seen that is not washed out from an angle.

  • High contrast screen compared to a screen that inverts the colors. Black (blue) becomes white and vice versa Thinking

His photos show a Tactix Delta. Maybe the Delta he returned because of the screen?

Sorry, I returned that tactix Delta because I could not stand how dim the sapphire crystal made the display.  But it was one of the "blue" ones.

  • Don't really get what you are implying here.

    Yes, it makes one wonder.

Maybe yours isn't as bad but I can assure you, I could not read my screen at the angle you took a photo at, but that's why I said ymmv.

The videos posted just above my reply illustrate it very good, that too one is like my current fenix, the one below like the one I returned.

Either way, I'm happy I got a black in now, for what it's worth.
