If you want to fancy, create a workout in the Garmin Connect mobile app or online and then sync to your device. You can specific sets, reps, weights, exercise types repeats, rests, and when you select that on the device (instead of "Free") it will act as a digital notepad and track reps as you go. I've got different ones for upper body, lower body, and compound lifts.
EDIT - if you haven't sent custom workouts to your watch from Connect, you won't see "Free" - the default activity is the same as free.
Hi,
...where do you set "free"??
Yep, you'll only see "Free" in a weight workout if you have custom workouts sent to your watch. Otherwise, the default activity it starts is "Free" (weights).
As far as I understood, only running (with GPS) and cycling (with powermeter) do have an effect on the calculated VO2max on your watch.
