Best chest strap heart rate monitor to buy?

Hi - I wanted to buy a heart rate chest strap to pair with my 945 - I will only be using this for running just to give me more accurate HR data as I prepare for a marathon.

What seems to be the best all around one to buy? I see Garmin makes HRM-Dual and HRM-Run and then there are Polar ones? Many thanks.

If you just want HR then polar and anything is fine I'd say.... The HRM Run is nice because you get some nice extra running stats.

I just bought the Garmin HRM-Run and I'm happy with it so far. It replaced a very old Garmin HR strap (rigid plastic - see https://www.trailrunningmovement.com/prodotto/garmin-heart-rate-monitor-belt/)

I mostly run these days,though I assume this would work fine for cycling too.

The HRM-Tri is a good choice if you ever go into the water or participate in a sport where wearing the watch is impractical and you still want to record HR.

Thanks - what about the Polar H10? Is the Garmin HRM-Run better? Weird that the Polar H10 doesn't seem to be sold at a lot of places - is a new version coming out?

The H10 is very good but doesn't do running dynamics should you be interested in that. With the latest firmware it supports both BLE and ANT+

After a bunch of failed Garmin HRMs, I'm switching to the Polar H10. Not only does it support ANT+ and BTLE, but it's got 5kHz Polar legacy protocol too. (works underwater with a Polar watch, and with a variety of gym equipment)

Perhaps the bigger bonuses of the H10: best strap on the market (better contacts, rubber dots in the right places to prevent slip), tool-free battery swap, and no tiny screws to strip out.

I am thinking getting the H10 too - seems to just "work". Do you know why it matters to have both ANT+ and Bluetooth? I don't even know what 5kHz Polar legacy is. Is ANT+ more reliable and less of a battery drain?

What extra running stats does it have that my 945 doesn't provide? Are any of them that useful?

And head to head, which HR strap is more accurate for solely HR data - Polar H10 or this Garmin?

HRM-Run provides 6 running dynamics metrics:

Cadence — number of steps per minute
Vertical oscillation — degree of ‘bounce’ in your running motion; displays the vertical motion of your torso, measured in centimeters for each step
Ground contact time — amount of time in each step that you spend on the ground while running; measured in milliseconds
Ground contact time balance — displays the left/right balance of your ground contact time while running (displays a percentage); for example, 53.2 with an arrow pointing left or right
Stride length — length of your stride from 1 footfall to the next; measured in meters
Vertical ratio — ratio of vertical oscillation to stride length (displays a percentage); a lower number typically indicates better running form
