Best chest strap heart rate monitor to buy?

Hi - I wanted to buy a heart rate chest strap to pair with my 945 - I will only be using this for running just to give me more accurate HR data as I prepare for a marathon.

What seems to be the best all around one to buy?  I see Garmin makes HRM-Dual and HRM-Run and then there are Polar ones?  Many thanks.

  • Did you realize a big improvement in the new one? I am considering replacing my very old HR strap from the Forerunner 610, but not sure what the real benefit would be.

  • Garmin HRM are nice at the beginning, but the strap damaged very quickly. I recently bought the new Tacx KickrX and it seems very good, and it has the running dynamics too... So I suggest the Tckr Strap.

  • Garmin HRM are nice at the beginning, but the strap damaged very quickly. I recently bought the new Wahoo TickR X and it seems very good, and it has the running dynamics too... So I suggest the Wahoo Strap.

  • I'm not familiar with the strap of the FR 610 (I had a really old one, I think from the 305?). I'm sad to say this new strap failed after nearly a year. While Garmin was willing to replace it, it was disappointing, esp given that the original 305 HR strap still works after all these years (not nearly as comfortable, nor does it provide all the stats)

  • Just got the new Tickr X a couple of weeks ago and impressed with it. Multiple Bluetooth, ANT+, most running metrics and a nicer, replaceable strap. I had been waiting for Garmin to release a new one but, with nothing on the horizon, stumped for the Tickr. Garmins loss, Wahoo's gain. I've already got the old Tickr X as well as a HRM run and Tri but was having to wear two with Zwift (one for Zwift, the other for the 945) as my tablet doesn't have ANT+. This ticked just about every box.
