How can I avoid double counting of the same activity on Forerunner AND Edge 1030 when cycling?

I have used the Edge 1030 for road and MTB cycling, and now bought a Forerunner 945. When I record a bike ride with both devices, Garmin connect does not notice that both devices are in fact recording the same activity. So afterwards, I have two rides with almost (but not entirely) the same data. Funnily, the estimated recovery time and training effect is much higher on the Forerunner than on the Edge.

Do the units not synch or communicate with one another? They are linked to the same Garmin connect account.

  • I use the watch to feed HR data to the Edge, and aldo get duplicate exercises as a result...

  • Discard rather than Save on the watch. No duplicated activities.

  • Turning off automatic upload seems the only way Disappointed

I understand you. I use old etrex for navigation and backup gps on bike + my FR945 as main gps unit for uploads and gathering data from power meter (etrex cant). Ive been thinking about edge 1030 but there is no way to use them both and choose which track keep :/

I wanted to keep it with automatic sync to load my navigation tracks. And i think it will sync all activities :/

Few times my old etrex saved me when my watch (epix/FR945) hang up or freezed.

  • the only way that really works, record only with 1 device, otherwhise your Training Load via Physio True Up get a inbalance, even if you stop autouploading or discard the activity on one of the device, Training Load never will work with 2 recordings.

  • Thanks for the info. That convinces me that i dont need another garmin.

  • I'm a bit confused. I do have an Edge 830 and a 945 and I do record on both and discard the Edge activity. My Training Load seems fine on the 945 and on Connect. I would expect discard to discard the whole thing and it seems to do just that. I've never looked at the Edge stats though maybe they are screwed?

I would of course much rather save and 'merge' or save and not upload to have the Edge files as backups if something is broken in the 945 recording.
The not upload feature does not work when I'm indoors and use Xert ConnectIQ App to control my trainer.

For this I would also like a setting on the 945 to never ever again ask for trainer connection/control when I start an indoor bike activity but that's another story.

  • Discarding the other activity is not an option. I want to keep it as a backup. I had had garmin watch issues and backup track record saved a day a few times ;)
