This is an issue that is actively being investigated by the engineering teams responsible for the Forerunner 945.

If you are experiencing this issue, please reach out to your local product support team.

We will gladly work with you to get a replacement in your hands as soon as possible and may bring your device in for extra evaluation.

  • I received a 2nd unit. Buttons going ok, but after around a week the Settings button is sticky and tough to press for the first time if you haven’t pressed it for a while and then it seems to loosen up and behave like the other buttons. I’m frustrated given this is a $750 watch for the bundle version. I’m most likely gonna have to wait to see if there’s a solution, or wait till they figure out the root hardware issue and then get a replacement down the road.

  • You are not alone. My MARQ expedition does the same thing, with unacceptable battery life (2,5% per hour, just in smartwatch mode). And that's more than twice th cost of the forerunner...

  • Well, I just sent mine back to the vendor (Bought through Amazon US) due to the down button actively getting lodged in the housing. I had to pick it out with my nails a few times. Even when the button came out, it would not do the action it was supposed to do. I made it known to the vendor I bought it from what the issue was. If they pass it on to Garmin, I don't know, but it's gone. I'm okay with mushy buttons as I've said before, but not mushy buttons not working.

Going to try one more to see if perhaps I had a bum unit, but that's about it.

  • Absolutely the right thing to do. Buttons sticking like that are entirely different to a perceived loss of feel after wearing in. We’ve two 945s in our house obtained very close to release date. They are used several times a week pool swimming, running, and cycling. They work.

  • I don't know if there was a supply chain change during manufacturing, a change in production itself at some point but the line up to now is all over the place. Mine was fine until maybe 2-3 days before I sent it back.

Then the down button started to have this distinct wobbly doubleclick. I'd press it and it felt like it was scraping against something internally then click again. On that second click it did what it was supposed to do until it just got lodged in the unit with just enough of the button sticking out that I could get two fingernails around it and pull it out. When I tried using it, nothing happened (though the button came out normal) for a couple attempts then worked.

I physically washed it with soap and water, dried and tried again. It got stuck again after a few and then didn't function until finally I got fed up altogether.

Here's hoping the next one works the way it's supposed to, and the battery on this one isn't a mess like the last one as well.

  • My 945 has mushy/sticky buttons too. The up and back buttons are the worst of them. And I´m starting to notice that the star/stop button it´s developing a very ugly "double click" position. It´s like it doesn´t response the way is suposed to sometimes.

  • Still waiting for the retailer to make a move on replacement. It's been three weeks now.

This makes me curious, Former Member if Garmin by itself is able to handle replacements within a week for customers directly then is it common that with retailers it takes 4-6 weeks?

  • Same situation here, I'm waiting for replacement since one month now!

  • The buttons on the 945 are sketchy - not nearly as responsive as my 935.  They feel like they stick and sometimes I need to press it a second time to register.  This is not ideal for such a pricy watch.  I loved the 935 and was hoping to see an improvement in the 945 - guess that is not so. I really hope that Garmin exchanges it since this seems to be a common issue.
