Mixed Firstbeat Workout Messages. Do I rest or go harder?

Hi all,

I have an odd result on my workout/recovery screens powered by Firstbeat.  I'm getting a message implying I'm working out too hard on one screen, and just barely in the "green zone" on another.  I'm not really sure what to make of it.  I'm using a combination of the Forerunner and an Edge using physio true up.  Any thoughts or suggestions?

because who swimw with chest HR really ?

Why do you think Garmin sells the HRM-SWIM and HRM-Tri chest straps?  Hint:  It's not for golf and it's for the same reason people wear one for running too.

  • I have the hrm swim and HRM tri, (bought in bundle) I use the hrm tri when I tri ... But really have you ever seen someone wearing a chest hr at the pool ? Have you tried one ? swimming and running are not the same because 1. you run so you don't use your uper body that much like when you swim 2. you are on a vertical place
chest hr at the pool :
    1. looks stupid (ok you can say who cares) moreover when you swim outside and you get tanlines from the hr
    2. is not practical because you can't even see your hr while swimming
    3. is not practical because either you have to tighten it and you feel squeezed, or it's too loose and it moves all the time

Yes, I've seen people wear them at the pool and I have used mine there and OWS too. I fully understand the vertical or horizontal plane the strap will be at when used for swimming and running. They're used the same way as people want the HR data. Like me, I'm sure many aren't concerned about tan lines or if it looks cool or not. Slippage hasn't been a major issue for me either.

  • So because you have no problem wearing it, everybody should wear it to get load on swimming activity ?
Would you not prefer to input an RPE really ?
why do you think every watch now has wrist hr in it ? I think it's because people don't want to wear an HR strap

  • Hi ,

    thanks for your detailed posts!

One follow-up question, does the limited integration of stress/sleep etc data into performance data also apply the other way around? Does body battery in particular take into account the load factors / metrics from workouts?

or is there also no interaction in that way?

    thanks!

  • Does your cycling vo2 drop and you are still productive??

  • Hi

As you've probably noticed, All-day Stress tracking doesn't work during physical activity - basically because the jostling of physical activity makes it a real challenge to ensure the reliability of the HRV-based stress tracking analysis. BUT, this isn't necessarily a horrible thing, because it's practically definitional that performing physical activity places stress on your body. So, your Body Battery decreases during physical activity at rates determined by the intensity of your performance. During vigorous-intensity exercise your Body Battery drain rate is faster than during, say, low- or moderate-intensity exercise.

The drain rate of Body Battery during physical activity isn't an EPOC-related adjustment, so it isn't part of the Training Load, Training Effect, Recovery Time prediction family - but the effect of physical activity is taken into account.

  • Excellent, thanks a lot for your reply!
