Improvement of the new forum?

Some time ago, we got that new forum. Promised was a better user experience.

Am I the only one, who thinks, that things really get worse then before? The non-usability really put me off.

  • I guess it takes time to get used to something new, but so far I'm underwhelmed. For one I don't know how to mark a particular forum as 'read'. And it doesn't seem that much speedier than before.

Hopefully a work in progress ...

  • Overall I think it's better, I only dislike the 'having to scroll down to get to the end of a topic/thread' thing... that's just hella annoying, I prefer pages so that I can just click on the last one.

I do stay logged in and I also like the conversation-like layout, makes it pretty overseeable...

  • Keep commenting and also contact support. I've asked for a thread to be set up to discuss the forum. Also asked for the ability to see 'New Posts', 'Mark as read' and some other options I can't recall for the moment.

  • I think overall it’s better than before. I like the nested threading which makes it much easier to follow the different discussions that crop up within topics.

But not being able to mark the whole forum for a device as read and not being able to tell if you’ve already commented on a thread is pretty annoying.

  • Well, it is nice that I can actually post from home now and not just from my work computer.  I could never stay logged in long enough to post from home.

I can't figure out how to easily go to the most recent comment if it was made under another comment.  I see that you can sort the entire thread by "newest" on top, but if someone comments below someone else you can only find it by scrolling through and hopefully you see it.  Is there an easier way to do this?

  • i think its worst, but im and old school man.... ::)

the annoying is the -for example- foreruuner 920XT forum.... where is it? now i need to check something and theres no place/history to see and search... garmin sucks.

(yes i contacted the support chat and they told me "search with forerruner and it will apprear the old posts".. no doubt...they sucks)

  • Unable to log in on Firefox today (as it keeps kicking me out. Sounds familiar?). Works on Chrome. Great 'user experience'

  • It's confusing.

I just marked someone's answer as "verified" .. apparently that means I selected that answer as the best - not my intention. Not only that, I also marked my own reply to this person as the best answer (ie verified myself). I don't see a way to undo this. Silly. Also there was no help to indicate what verifying an answer means ??

Also, is there a way to get notified when someone posts something in reply to something I started? I don't see a way to subscribe to threads.

Or a way to mark a group read.

Finally, it remains difficult to see the most recent messages, when I select Newest, the recent messages are intermixed with older ones.

So far, not  very usable - I much preferred the older boards - they were slow, but this isn't a speed daemon either - and most importantly were usable.

  • There are all kinds of crap forums software out there now - and this forum software is middle of the road IMHO. So if it was star rated it would be 2-3 stars out of 5.

    I miss flat-view structure

I miss I can’t easily find my own posts or replies to my post

I can’t easily see which posts I have read before in a thread - making it time-waste to try and catch up

It seems like it tries to be “question / answer” database and not a forum - which is kind of the wrong direction (like upvoting replies?) - no give me static time lines please.

Zenfora would have been a lot better and faster - plus it is easy and cheap to maintain - and follow good old established forum standards.

If some energy had been put into the old forum that would probably have been better.

Now it is just a bit “meh” and annoying.

  • I agree, maybe if they had only put the forums on some faster servers for speedier response .. the layout/functionality was very familiar and similar to many other forums I've used.
